a wonderful short story with impressive characterization and feeling of place. the way images transform into others is mesmerizing. the writing is a little bit too "check out my vocabulary" but that's a small complaint. didn't blow my mind, but the tone is very different than that of most games, i recommend.

Some of the most interesting presentation I've seen in a VN so far; the music and visuals are great at setting and emphasizing a tone. However, they end up doing most of the heavy lifting rather than the story or prose which is good, but nothing all that special in the end. Add to that some QOL stuff generally standard to VNs that the game is strangely lacking (you're not allowed to advance the text with any keyboard buttons? no log in case you double click?) and The Last Survey is definitely an interesting romp for the duration of its short runtime--maybe not always for the better, but something's always better in my eyes if it takes a few risks, even if they don't always work out. Definitely worth a look for people who grabbed it in one of those Itch.io bundles given how quickly you can read through it, but don't go in with your expectations set too high.

This a short visual novel where you play as a geologist having to deliver their report to a Brazilian mining CEO. I liked the visual style of the line art and that the game attempted to explain the issues with resource extraction. On these points it succeeded. the dialogue choices and conversations weren't always that interesting so i was thankful for the short length. Recommended checking out if you're interested in these issues. 3.5/5
