ValiDate: Struggling Singles in your Area

released on Sep 28, 2022

ValiDate is a visual novel about thirteen struggling singles navigating through soul-sucking 9-to-5s, quarter-life crises, and the harsh truths millennials learn as soon as they hit their 20's. Set in the Jercy City area, our cast of lovers trudge through the dregs of capitalism - a journey, a transition - a rite-of-passage that leads into uncertain mid-adulthood. On one side but not yet out on the other, 13 playable characters find romance amongst cosplay, trash mixtapes, and even poetry straight from the soul. With over 30 routes to choose from and hours of content, the lives of these singles are in your good (or bad!) decision-making hands.

Paid 2 dollars for this and I want my money back

Nonsensical and dumb. First game from this studio but its not good at all.

Seria melhor se não tivesse homem

I enjoyed meeting the characters and the art! I I definitely was thinking about how I want to build my own dating skills. The characters feel genuine and so does the reflection of community!

However, the game sort of lacks what I consider typically visual novel/dating structure ( you don't play one character the whole time or really make very many choices), and I don't think the game provides enough framing on how it's structuring these little dates.
I think if you go in knowing that they are bunch of little date episodes you may still have a great time though!

After playing the first demo, I immediately became a kickstarter backer and got my other friends to join in on the hype as well. The dialogue was nice and tbh I was really glad to see people who looked like me tackle issues that aren't really talked about, in VNs or otherwise. Things like being a single parent while dealing with a toxic ex, or unlearning toxic masculinity and coming to terms with being bi, learning how to log off, or feeling trapped in your life due to family circumstances.

I'm excited to see where the next couple of characters will go, but I do also want to point out that there are some UI and graphical errors that got me annoyed. I put off playing the game until patches were released that fixed the errors and then went back to play the other routes.

TLTR: Ultimately, I hesitate to recommend this game anyway. Writing is annoying, and embarrassing, with only one or two characters that have an authentic three-dimensional route it markets itself as. There are too many problems on the technical side, it’s just too hard to ignore. But, I do implore you to support the devs in any capacity. No matter how I feel about this game, the devs set out to make something different, and new, and for people who are in groups, who the gaming industry typically ignores. It’s admirable, and I will always sing praises to them for it. First games are always rough, and sometimes you can never get them right, but they deserve the support for trying something new and hopefully getting it right next time, once more of the episodes are released. In my interactions with this game, I will continue to support them as much as I can.
