A neat game but everything that made it unique in the series in 2011 was brought over or expanded upon in 8 and 8 Deluxe. Combine that with the sleek and sanitized look of the series at this point and missions + emblems not returning from the DS version, and this is a fairly dry (if still competent) entry.

But it's a Mario Kart that controls pretty well and as a result there's lots of fun to be had, even today since the Pretendo servers work well with this already and I've never had trouble finding a race. At the very least, it's worth giving a shot if you have the urge for some Mario Kart but want a change of pace from MK8.
