For personal reference more than anything else.

Second full playthrough, no idea when the first was which is probably a sign of just how long ago it was.

Its weird, even though I only played this fully once before, I still remembered so much of it. I think this is a testament to the novelty of this game, straight from the beginning it is such a charming and original game that's just brimming with personality. The vibrant colours, distinct worlds and interesting characters all add to this, making it a game that never really lost its appeal to me and was such a pleasant time.

The gameplay is really good as well, I initially played it because I wanted something easy and while it is easy for the most part, it does experiment a fair bit. One of my favourite things about playing this was recognising so many different things used in the levels that I played around with myself in the level creator when I was younger (not actually making levels but instead just messing around with stuff) and I think this really helped me appreciate what went into making this game. Normally game creation doesn't really mean too much to me but the levels in this game showcasing all the various tools, creations and doodads made me feel like I could have a better understanding of what the developers had done.

Platforming is the main gameplay and it was quite enjoyable, it does start off incredibly easy but it gets harder as it goes along and stays interesting due to the levels incorporating different gimmicks and the like. My only two issues were that I felt my character was a little too weighty and the other issue is the lives system. Admittedly I've never really been a fan of lives systems in games as they're either pointless because I won't die enough in a game for them to affect me or they're an annoyance that causes me to redo stuff I've already done. This game was like the second one for me, it wasn't terrible as it only happened with two levels but they were both long levels that I was already a ways into and having to restart was just irritating.

Some scattered thoughts:

• I really like some of the music in this game and I enjoyed how songs add an instrument or something once you've got further in a level.

• I think that having each world represent a different country and their culture is a great idea, however I do think the game perhaps veered into being on the culturally insensitive side at times, even if I don't think that was intentional.

• I loved the Sackperson, they're really emotive and I very much enjoyed dressing them up and changing their outfit every time I entered a new world.

• There's not much of a story but the ending was kind of cute so that was nice, The Savannah plotline felt very weird though and honestly I enjoyed it.

I had a really good time with this game and I'm so glad I've replayed it. Because I started with the second one when I was younger, I think part of me wasn't as into this one because 2 felt like it had more going on and I saw this one as a bit of a downgrade despite still liking it. But playing it again made me realise that it holds up by itself and is just a very enjoyable experience.
