Well, WWE 2K24 was one of my must-have games this year considering I've been watching much more wrestling, between WWE and AEW, when I have a bit of extra time between games. I was really eager to get back into wrestling games after spending a few years away from them and hearing that 2K22 changed a lot of disastrous things the franchise had since 2K16. Overall, I'm really not impressed by 2K24, but there's plenty of fun to be had with the game if you're looking for the newest, most refined, large-roster game. I'll break down each mode 2K24 has, from best to worst.

Best mode easily goes to the "Play" mode between you and your friends, along with community creations. This is really carrying my three-star rating a bunch. The roster this year features almost 200 roster characters, including upcoming DLC for CM Punk, Pat McAfee, and a whole bunch of other WWE legends and people who you wouldn't normally see as DLC. Community creations will also allow you to pick up even more characters to add to your arsenal, if your favorite wrestler is with another company or didn't agree to their likeness being in the game, community creations has you covered!

In addition to how good "Play" mode is, there are plenty of new match types this year as advertised. The casket and ambulance matches return, along with the comedically good Special Guest Referee mode. There's a lot to enjoy here on just beating up on your CPUs or friends, and if I had a night with some people coming over, 2K24 might easily be the game of choice over the traditional sports games due to the sheer amount of fun and variability in matches.

Play mode out of the way, here's where things get a bit more spotty.

"Showcase" mode: Recent games have had a showcase where you live out a legendary wrestler's most famous matches. I did try this on 2K23 for PC, and enjoyed the spotlight and various matches of John Cena, where you play as his opponents to dethrone John and relive his few losses over the years. This year's Showcase features more matches than ever in "40 Years of Wrestlemania mode". I had so much fun with the initial three or so matches from Wrestlemania 1 & 3, but then you start to realize the repetition of this mode, and things will drag on and on as you work your way through another 25 or so matches that treat everything as a tutorial.

Basically, the game puts you in the match and asks you to do specific moves, often telling you how with hints, then cutting to real-life footage of the match. It's fun on how seamless some moments transition to real life, but often times, and to major annoyance, all of the cool moments of the match happen while you're rewatching the fight. You'd think you performing a massive jaw-dropping splash as Shawn Michaels would be fun, until you just...watch him do it to Razor Ramon. Like you could have just watched it on YouTube or on the WWE Network.

In essence, I like what this mode goes for but it is very, very bland after a few matches, and will lose its fun fastest. You won't also be returning to this mode at all after it's completed.

In the meh category of 2K24 are MyGM and MyRise. I'll speak briefly on MyGM - it's a fun management game but nearly impossible on higher difficulties, along with how repetitive it gets. I heard older games have management situations that are new almost every time you enter the mode, yet within one season of MyGM, my Superstars were asking for the same shit every time without fail. "Pair me with this person! Take me out for a week!" It was pretty bland, and again, I don't think too many people buy these games just for the management side of things alone.

MyRise is...bleck. Again, it was a mode that captured my interest for about an hour, but when you see where it's going, it's a lot bleaker and more boring. In these modes, you create a wrestler for a story to run through your character. There is a male and female version, both of which don't have any shining characteristics. The dialogue is very cringy, the combat is pretty easy all the way through, the side missions really don't "add" much to your characters outside of the occasional unlock and upgrade points...and I'd say if you watch all the cutscenes and side missions, it's almost 10 hours per story. For a "main story", this is easily quite pathetic and your character doesn't have a lot of choice on how they choose to act outside of maybe 2-3 parts of the story. Your superstar is very much how the game projects them to be, moreso than making your character yourself.

Lastly, and what would easily be a half-star if it was its own mode - MyFaction. Not dissimilar to Madden's Ultimate Team or whatever 2K calls it in NBA, it's a game mode meant to bring in whales to buy cards of their favorite Superstars with real life cash. I enjoyed the various modes and ways to play, from towers to almost a roguelite mode in Faction Wars, the rewards were always so paltry and bare that the game was begging me to whale and buy the cards of who I liked rather than playing the mode a second longer. In wrestling terms, this mode would earn negative stars from myself.

Overall, just a very meh game that really would only be worth it as a wrestling fan or someone who wants something to play with their friends. I expect my love of wrestling to continue, but I will likely be waiting for a sale of 2K25, no matter what "returns" from older, better games.

Я больше не буду покупать wwe2k, смысл? Все равно одно и тоже

Fundamentally it's solid and still good, but in terms of content it's a step down from last year. Showcase is really bad and the Women's MyRise is even worse.

Not a fan of GM but they added stuff to that so I guess it's better? And Special Guest Ref is a great addition

Finished the story before Cody lmao

They need to make the showcases more, yano, fun but it's everything I liked about '23 and improved so no complaints.

feels the same as the previous version. Nothing has changed.
However, it's still enjoyable because it's still WWE."

def the most fun wrestling game i've played

with over 100 hours into this game, i feel like i wont stop any time soon. while not perfect by any means, the game really hits the simulation aspect of the wrestling games on the head.

My Rise is super fun, i didn't care for roman tbh but the story and matches were good. i much preferred the female MyRise over the "undisputed" story line.

It's average. A slightly better average than last year's edition, which was a slightly better average than the previous year's edition. Sad to say, that's actually high praise because this is the best 2K wrestling game ever and probably the best North American-made wrestling game of the past decade.

Fire Pro loyalists still have the best playing option, but there are some real good modes here. I think the GM mode is more compelling than it was even in the old SvR games, so if you can't get into EWR you should check this out.

My first WWE game since WWE ‘12. The showcase mode is hilariously bad. 40 years of Wrestlemania but decides to skip a few of them. Austin vs Michaels?? Rock vs Hollywood Hogan?? Brock vs Kurt Angle??? The Rock vs Cena!? Triple H vs The Undertaker hell in a cell??

Smackdown vs Raw 2011… now that was a good game

It's pretty alright overall. Not a masterpiece or anything; but better than 95% of the 2K games, that's for sure.

The fucking loading screens though, especially in MyRise. They're so many and take so long.

I believe the 2K games starting from '22 have hit their stride and found what works for them. The creation suite always blows me away with it's vast options for players; whether it's making a wrestler, designing a stage, or creating your very own wrestling show. The new match types are a very welcome addition and the MyRise storyline was a fun experience as a WWE fan. The things that keep this game from being amazing are it's poor online modes and glitches that don't necessarily break the game, but slightly inconvenience you. I also hope they take a different approach with the showcase mode next year as I'm personally burnt out from the current formula of checking an objective list so I can advance to the next list in a match.

The best of the new 2k WWE era (22,23,this). It goes to show EA that if you take a year off of yearly sports releases they can actually turn 180 quality wise. It's not a coincidence that 2020 was awful, they take a year off development and go straight to 2k22, and that's when the series started being good again.

22/23/24 are great, before them I hadn't enjoyed a wrestling game since Smackdown vs Raw 08. Great showcase mode this year too, albeit skipping quite a few more Wrestlemania's than I expected them to.

Also DLC plans look stacked, Big hype for the ECW pack and the WCW pack.

A big step-up from 2K, sadly a few bugs here and there, but still 5 stars either way.

I think this is the best sports game on the market today. WWE fan or not, this is an action-packed fighting sim with some of the best attention to detail out there. Not to mention, the creation suite is out of this world good compared to other AAA sports games. WWE and 2K know what they are doing here.

I'm not a big pro wrestling guy, but my good buddy Jeremy is. We were playing exhibitions in local multiplayer. It was a good time, but some features that were prominent in past entries (I used to play a lot of the smackdown games on ps2) were not present or at least, we weren't able to figure out how to do them. Had a lot of fun though.

Best wrestling game since 2k14. Its just marginally better than 2k23, but the changes in this game make it my favorite 2K made wrestling game. If your confused, 2k14 was made by yukes mostly before the rights to the WWE games were sold to 2K. 2k15 and on were made by 2K. MyRise is fine, and it could be way better if they didn't spend resources on Showcase mode which is just awful and I wish they wouldn't waste time on it, its obviously the weakest mode at this point. Universe mode is great, and the changes to allow you to fully control the camera during CPU vs CPU matches make my brand of universe mode so much more fun. I really enjoy the superstar universe mode, again i wish they'd cut showcase mode and put more manpower into it, this could be the modern day version of season mode in the old games if they just had some more fleshed out stories. But as it stands its still fun to play and gives a more enjoyable way to just play out matches.

This is a very solid foundation, I just hope they build on this, and dont scale it back in the future.

Bought for Cody's sexy neck tat, stayed for the goofy community creations

GooeyScale: 8/10

This is definitely an upgrade from the previous year. graphics as always continue to get better, but they've actually done some work in the other modes. Universe, while still not as good as I know it can be (i.e WWE 12, 13) is an improvement from the bugginess of last years game. GM mode is steadily becoming one of 2Ks most consistent and best game modes MyRise has some interesting stories this year and MyFaction will (hopefully) be a more useful mode if not for Person a cards alone. The one knock I have on this game is showcase, which was done so much better in the past games. Not giving us ingame cutscenes and instead choosing to splice the real match with the game just seems a bit dumb to me

I play these everytime they come out and personally always enjoy myself. Big fan of the WWE games recently (Not 2k20 or Battlegrouds).

The "completed" is just for the showcase, but I play the FUCK out of these games, and this one is easily my favorite so far. The weapon throwing, the ramp camera, the announce table improvements, blood dripping, pulling down the straps midmatch, it's like the added all the small details I missed!

Рестлинг - это круто!

shit talk all you want but anton chigurh vs king from tekken is one of the greatest rivalries of alltime and none of you peasants will experience the 5 star bangers they put on in the squared circle

Well, 2K you lucky sum bitches. You've done it again. Another fucking solid WWE game.

It's like they're finally giving a shit about getting better every year now which I love. Everything great from last year is here with a lot of new epic stuff too.

And the added realism is so cool. Wrestlers ' face paints coming off during matches showing how goofy my CAW looks underneath is something I didn't know I needed.

Casket Match! YEP! Ambulance Match! AHHHH! Special Referee! FUCK YES! So glad we got Casket and Special Referee back. Just praying we get Buried Alive next year. And all three matches play great! I'm actually enjoying being a Special Referee online more than just wrestling. It's so much fun.

Showcase this year is....kinda wonky. I get why they did the 40 Years of WrestleMania but....not every WrestleMania is there. And it really suffers due to a lot of great wrestlers that were at WrestleMania are now in AEW and can't be in the game (Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, Edge just to name a few.) Seriously, guys. Make some sort of deal between the two companies to get these guys in future games. We miss them!

Also, the cut from gameplay to the actual match is kinda annoying this time. Mainly due to all the blurs in the archive footage. It really takes me out of it. Some of them being really unnecessary. Though I find it funny that Vince McMahon is blurred out in one cut-scene and yet is fully visible in another.

Yeah. Less said about him the better considering what's happened.

MyRise is fun again! Doesn't feel as gimmicky as the last year and feels more like a genuine storyline like Road to WrestleMania was in the Smackdown vs RAW series. I'm enjoying that so far.

Online however? It is so fucking broken. The servers are so laggy and getting a stable session is a real chore. Please fix it ASAP, 2K. Even Community Creations feels broken this year.

But overall, this game is fantastic. And it's another solid entry. 2K have outdone themselves over the last three years. Let's hope they keep this up for years to come. Wrestling games have never felt more enjoyable.

F for AEW Fight Forever. That game ain't doing so well.

DISCLAIMER: I got a reviewer key fo free to play this game earlier.
Tl;dr: It's good, but it could've been great.

Both MyRise campaigns are really good, the best they have ever being in this kind of game (maybe i'm little biased towards Jacob Cass storyline in RTWM WWE '12) but they are fun.

They were written by Drew Gulak himself and as a guy from the business he knows how to make interesting stories. I thought the women MyRise was significantly more well written than the male one though, it legit got me emotional, but both were fun.

Universe Mode is LITERALLY THE SAME THING as last years, including that stupid bug in which someone would cash-in but even if they lost the match in the PLE they would still have a match against you in RAW and Smackdown, it's basically "yeah this MITB contract only expires once you manage to win the title"

MYGM is fun, more of the same.

Showcase Mode needs to be gone, it doesn't even make sense at this point.

The idea of adding save-states to CAW/CAS is really good, and i wish they add that to Create a Moveset in future games as well, i was creating a moveset of one of my CAS and my game crashed (and i live in a third world country where the energy might go out randomly) so i had to do it all over again.

The strikes trading mini-game is fun, but if they managed to do that with chain wrestling at the same time, it would be even better. Speaking of chain wrestling, we now get crawl pins back which are always awesome.

I feel like super finishers should be 2 finishers bars only, you most likely won't have 3 bars of finisher unless you really pad out the match. But they are cool, i just wish we can remove the drunk effect.

Also you can deactivate HUD while spectating AI x AI this year, which it was in overdue time.

For last i'll speak for the DLC, they were announced and they are cool as hell, but man, CM Punk, Dragon Lee, Jade Cargill, but man, i really, really wish we got the Moves Pack DLC back. We are limited to having moves only WWE wrestlers have, so most of the moves that are in the game that aren't from any of them, came from some of these packs back in the Yukes day. The Moves Pack DLC were basically indies/Japan moves pack which were incredibly cool. We still don't have Kevin Owen's avalanche Fisherman Buster - a move he does basically every match - and Kevin Owens has been in this games for like... 6 years already? or more? Also we have 4 burning hammers but only one animation for the Emerald Flowsion that is probably 8 years old at this point. I was expecting a new one for Gunther's Last Symphony.

They apparently made create an arena worse but i guess they will fix it with the time.

It does feel like a DLC to WWE 2K23, but it feels like a huge DLC. Something like Phantom Liberty was to Cyberpunk and i don't really mean this in a bad way.

If you are a wrestling fan, you won't find anything better for sure. But i'm still hoping for that definitive WWE game experience in which we still don't have. We are this close to greatness.

My favorite wrestling game since Here Comes the Pain on PS2. Lots to dig into, a variety of modes to play, and a lot of wrestlers to mess around with. Plus, the number of ways you can create wrestlers, shows, title belts and more is absurd.

Definitely has its issues. MyFaction is grindy and pointless, MyRise is decent and Showcase mode is a bit of a bore, but I can see myself coming back to mess around with community creations, GM and Universe Mode again and again.
