Day 7 of my One Game a Day streak that nobody is holding me to but myself; I stumbled across this one kinda out of nowhere. I had heard absolutely nothing about it ever, never seen it in my life, but it showed up on the store page and I thought the art was pretty. The promise of about a 60 minute long run through was a nice bonus as well.

That's the first thing I'll give Absent in the Rain, as it is called on Steam and not here. It is very pretty. While completely monotone, the style this game carries is incredibly soothing, almost to a fault. The menus are stylized really nicely around the rain aesthetic, which is not something I was expecting to see. The music worked well in the few times it was used, and overall, it's just a very calm experience.

As I said though, almost to a fault. I spent the first few minutes pretty out of it, since, while the aesthetic is nice, it still makes the experience a bit drab. There's not a lot of story to be told in only 60 minutes, yet it feels like they really wanted to. I did like what was there, what they were trying to do, but I felt as if I didn't have a lot of time to take anything in before they moved on, then moved on, then ended.

... and I guess I'll be doing the same here. Sorry, but there's not a lot to say. I can't call it bad, it had me interested at least for a little bit, I just so badly wish that I had more to be interested in. I didn't even have any expectations either, I went in blind to the fullest extent, purely an impulsive download over the promise of a short story and some pretty visuals. I didn't lose anything—it's a free game—but I didn't really enjoy it as much as I feel like I could've.

Am I repeating myself yet? I'll stop. 5/10 game.
