It was fine, very middle of the road.

A run of the mill JRPG with some unique mechanics.

The biggest problem is that the story opens up on what feels like what should be the third of fourth part of game. The characters already have history with each other, and interact well with each other. They have one final destination to get to, and it’s about 3 or 4 hours of gameplay away. You have a final confrontation with a rival group shortly before the last dungeon.

But there’s no buildup to any of this. And then the games with a strange and somewhat predictable plot twist.

It’s fun enough, and the characters are fine, but wait for it to be on sale if want to play it, definitely not worth full price.

What a fuckin' mess that I still find deeply charming for some reason. Anyway, Reina Ueda raps in this.

Arc of Alchemist on the Nintendo Switch may look pretty and attractive when looked at its still pictures but that should not deceive anyone: this game has a poor performance, its plot and characters are completely uninspiring and the overall gameplay mechanics fail to compel and to entice the players. Add to that a steep launch price and there are very few reasons why anyone would want to spend too much time around this effort.

Arc of Alchemist does one thing right: it looks like a charm. It certainly doesn't play like one, though, and its performance is anything but enjoyable, not to mention a dull and drab plot and characters that will leave any player disenchanted with any hint of joy that its visual environment might suggest.

The kind of game that's actually kind of bad but still somehow ends up being enjoyable. Maybe because I'm a sucker for this type of game, where you make dungeon runs and build a base. Nothing here is actually especially good, from the mediocre combat to the shallow base building, but it's got that japanese nerd game charm and doesn't overstay its welcome. Could've been an excellent game if it was designed more for repeated runs through less linear dungeons and if there was more stuff to build and craft, but it wasn't bad as a single saturday type of game that only lasts for one weekend day or a few evening sessions before it's over and there's little reason to start over.
