It's got an interesting premise and good design, but it's honestly bogged down by it's bad story and voice acting. If the dialogue had at least been skippable, I might have been more inclined to actually try and finish the game, but I made it to Chapter 6 and just couldn't bring myself to continue on.

No idea what the UI experience is anywhere else, but it was abysmal on the Nintendo Switch.

I couldn't get hooked on the plot either. Characters weren't very interesting, and I didn't really feel immersed in the world.

It's a shame, because I did enjoy the art style and battle system.

Overall is actually good if there is no annoying bug and has better UI/UX design. I love every main charas, they have very unique and memorable design. But the sprites are not HD enough, it pixelated when close up. Music also very good, but not the best. Story is generic WoL, but the ending is quite touchy imo. Gameplay frankly combined from multiple SE turn-based games (especially Bravely Default), but still very fun especially job system that surprisingly has quite deep customization.

No começo é bom, mas depois vai ficando cada vez mais repetitivo e enjoativo, não senti evolução no gameplay do jogo, você começa com todos personagens e é isso. A história é muito, mas muito fraca.

Nothing strictly wrong with it, the visuals drew me in initially but overall it was boring to play.

DISCLAIMER: This review is incomplete. I will update it upon finishing with my final thoughts.

Pros:
+ Artwork is beautiful, especially the character designs
+ Combat has quite a bit of depth that feels very customizable and challenging to master
+ Starting cast of 8 characters is overwhelming in terms of story and characterization, but it's also very fun to have all 8 to utilize from the beginning; experimenting with lineups and play-styles from the start is exciting

Cons:
- Speaking strictly from the Switch, the game feels poorly optimized, like the extreme input lag in certain menus, and controls overall could feel more responsive, which is a pretty major gripe in a game that is $40 USD MSRP

Where to even begin with this game? I guess let's start with a very glaring statement on the game case:
"A story based around adult characters, Astria Ascending offers a more mature experience and extensive dialogue."

Hahahahaha. Oh my god, no. Absolutely not. The writing is unbelievably childish. The story is terrible. Many of the main cast are terribly racist. I daresay this game had the worst story of any RPG I've ever played. It's THAT bad.

The game isn't all bad. The animation is gorgeous, albeit odd. Everything is hand-drawn. The best part of the game is combat, by far. It's rather difficult (as difficult as you want it to be) and fairly complex. Character growth is reminiscent of FFX's sphere grid. Only real issue is character balance: a couple of them are incredibly OP and a couple others are worthless throughout.

If you view this as a dungeon grinder and ignore the story, it's playable and quite fun at that. But if you want a good story ... stay as far away as you can.

Combat: 4.5/5
Story: 0/5
Overall: 1.5/5
