When I was 11 this put the jRPG seed in my brain

When it comes to role-playing games, Black Sigil: Blade of the Exile is a throwback to the genre's golden age. The game has an engaging plot with surprising turns that will keep players engaged. Although the visuals aren't quite up to pace with the most current releases, they do their job effectively and include well-designed characters and locations.

Black Sigil's gameplay is standard fare for the role-playing genre, with turn-based combat, level grinding, and puzzle solving. The game successfully incorporates familiar features, but it doesn't provide much in the way of new gameplay. Although it may be demanding, the pace of the game may be too sluggish for some players. The game's music is particularly remarkable, featuring a fantastic tune that perfectly complements the mood of the game.

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exile is a serviceable role-playing game that will satisfy purveyors of the genre yearning for a throwback. The game doesn't achieve anything particularly groundbreaking, but it has a terrific plot, decent visuals, and enjoyable gameplay. Those in need of a more difficult or original gameplay experience, however, may want to go elsewhere.
