It's unfortunate it seems this game has rather mixed reception and killed the series. As someone who mostly plays 2D fighters, and rarely 3D ones, I think the game is more fun than Tekken 7 and 8, mostly cuz I like the movement in Dead or Alive (don't like Tekken's weirdly stiff movement). I also like the Strike/Hold/Throw triangle.

I'll admit that I hadn't played a Dead or Alive game much before 6 but I think this is a surprisingly good starting point since it has good graphics AND a really well detailed tutorial and generally feels good to play both in beginner friendly mashing sense but also surprising depth and character variety.

Arcade mode is nice and standard but at least it's better than certain other modern fighting games either barely having one or not having one at all.

The story mode was... goofy but at least they have cutscenes even if most of them are like 1 minute long each.

DOA Quest was a fun way to act as a way to practice certain characters and tools AND get more customization costume options.

There are a few unfortunate things about this game I can't defend.

Even though I don't care for customization and the fanservice costumes in general, I thought it was weird how much this game tried too hard to be "esports friendly" in terms of presentation and content.

Speaking of the DLC store prices and availability for all the costumes is pretty dumb and ridiculous. Thankfully I don't care for that stuff.

What I DO care about is how weirdly expensive the DLC characters are. At least the "Core Fighters" free to play idea kinda worked?

Overall this game is fun but admittedly I mostly played single player since I only tried to 'compete' when the game was first released, and now no one plays this game online and the developer is likely not to make a sequel.

Game would be perfect if the DLC wasn't so expensive

This is like if Dead or Alive was made by someone who never touched the franchise and thought it was a porn game with a fighting mode.

Dead or Alice always knew how to use the sexual elements in their fighting games, it was a perfect mix in 5. You want sexy skins? You can have as much as you want. You want to play more normally? You can too. You want just to enjoy how good of a fighting game 5 is? Sure, just go play some rounds in the arcade mode. The story mode was like playing an anime game, the direction was amazing and had so many cool stuff in the chapters and the sexual side never felt as the only selling point. But for some reason, since the beach games are popular people never took Dead or Alive seriously. So how you deal with this? Remove all the personality from the series, try to hide the sexy side (is still crazy how they were thinking Kasumi and Ayane normal outfits were way to much horny), make the simple but complex mechanics of 5 way to much more simple, make a story mode based on Persona Arena Ultimax for some reason and put a lot of bad monetization and try to appeal do EVO folks.

Dead or Alive 6 was a failure because the majors decisions were made with disrespect. Dead or Alive 5 could be easily in EVO alongside Tekken, there's nothing that could make a big problem but they just decided to make 5 without most of the things that makes the series great. Is just sad to see as a fan of the series but at the same time the game being just 5 but weaker is enough to me to like playing for a bit of time. I just hope the reboot don't try to do the same shit.

This game got some things better than DOA 5, is much more easy and more fair than DOA 5. But customs got downgrade to grinding coins. The roster is bad imo. I don't know if I want to go back to play and learn, or even play it online. The story was worse than DOA 5.

What an absolute scam of a game. An ungodly amount of grinding needed to unlock just a quarter of cosmetics because the rest all cost real money and are reused from the previous game. The game looks good though I will admit and plays well, but that's it. Story is completely wack, confusing, bland, and out of order. just a shit game with no thoughts other than profit in mind. Play DOA5. Its way cooler, way better cosmetics (still cost a lot of money though), funnier boob physics, and is just fun to play.

My first DOA, and it was surprisingly fun. It's unfortunately at a state where online is only inhabited by turbo-virgins that have played the game endlessly since release, but there's a few single player modes to keep busy/practice. Maybe some day I'll come back and try the story mode, but that would require me to play as someone that's not Rachel or Tina (I have a type)

DoA is a cashgrab, but this really felt like one. Lack of costumes to get properly in-game without a fucking dumb grind really sours my opinion on this game, because it plays real good and everything looks better.

Garbage fucking game, a downgrade in every way possible. Has the opposite problem of DOA4 where everything is too damn easy now, it has much content and plays as good as it's gibberish story now, unlike DOA5 which atleast offered good content and played good. Here it's either less gameplay modes with hit hit hit! slow mo face smacked! again and again or... HEY IM YOUR SISTER, NO NOW IM YOUR BROTHER, NO TURNS OUT YOURE MY SISTER. God this game sucks, no wonder they're gonna reboot it the next time (which hopefully won't suck and will have Nyotengu, maybe Kanna's fighting debut? I'm just going off dreaming). Not to mention the whole disaster that was the marketing of this game. There is still sexy in this game, there is, it's just not the defaults to be esports friendly ig. But the way it was marketed made people think this game has none of it and it wouldn't surprise me if some people still geniuenly believe this game has no sexy, but honestly they're not missing much by skipping this one. Y'know some designs had potential, like NiCO, she seems interesting, too bad they could barely utilize her in a meaningful way, let alone other newcomers like Tamaki, atleast she gets to shine in DOAXVV. As for the redesigns, Kasumi's just sucks ass, it's like a mockery of DOA. Ayane's design is actually cool tho but heels really clashes with the whole "oh now it's more realistic!" thing tho, you can't tell me that's comfortable for a ninja to jump around and land in if we're really going there with DOA. I can't really bring myself to like Ayane's design due to it's association with this game and it's stupid ass marketing and that whole disaster though. I guess Hayate's redesign is fine. Also I don't wanna go into people's and esports hyprocisy over this game vs. something like Mortal Kombat, but I wanna atleast mention it, and I just did, so there.

Skip this one, play 2, 5 (and with mods!) and Dimensions forever like I do if you wanna, that'll be more than enough content for you.

Saiu de graça esse aqui, nem tinha expectativa mas até que foi divertido. Deu pra matar saudade dos velhos tempos de fliperama no começo da franquia

I'm sorry, you play DOA for the fighting mechanics?
Nah chief, only for jiggle physics.

I've beaten a good chunk of the story which is mostly just cutscene clips, but also dove into the quest mode quite a bit. I plan on revisiting this when a fighting game itch strikes but I'm confident I have a full grasp of the content.

Judging it solely on what is in the game, it is fun to play by a lot. I always thought I would hate DOA but it's one of a few 3D fighters I can get into. Not too complex, and with my "avid casual fighting game player" status, it's pretty managable for me to play.

It is still pretty disgusting with how Koei Tecmo has chosen to monetize it, but getting it on its lowest possible sale and not buying any DLC, even though it leaves that nagging incomplete feeling, is still a fun fighting game for sure that looks pretty great.

This game is so difficult to rank, because it's so many things at once. It's one of the worst examples of microtransactions in gaming, and an embarrassment to Tecmo. It's one of the best fighting games on Steam, and yet also one of the worst in its series. It directly opposes everything its fans wanted in a desperate attempt at mass appeal and esports contention, both of which it failed miserably at. Despite all of this, I love it. I can't help it! Maybe I have bad taste! But the gameplay flows so well, the new systems feel like they should've been there all along, the free-to-play model is one of the best in gaming and allows you to figure out exactly what you want from it and spend as little as possible to get there (I played the single player with a few characters, found my main, and bought her for $4 so I could use her online, then never spent another penny). This game is such a mess, and truly did deserve to flop, but it's also one of the most enjoyable experiences in fighting games. I don't know how, and I'll never truly be able to put it into words.

Was totally into it before i realised how much grinding it takes just to unlock a single outfit.... yeeeaaahhhhhh no thanks. I'll try some of the older titles though

locking the sexy costumes behind a paywall is fucking terrible and this is very underwhelming compared to the last dont get me wrong, but damn at its core its still dead or alive and its tons of fun with friends i fucking love this deliciously garbage series

DOA6 was the last installment of the franchise and the first one completely for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The graphics and technical issues are an upgrade from DOA5. You can really see this was back at the time a New Gen game. Characters looks really good and the scenarios have a pretty decent design.

The gameplay mechanics are decent. Some people would not like this version because is more unbalanced, different to DOA5, but DOA6 is not a bad system at all, it just includes things to make the fight quicker.

The game modes are ok, the story even if interesting it's unorganized so you'll have to read the wiki or watch every cinematic again just to understand a little bit more. The Arcade More it's just as before, doesn't offer anything new. The DOA Quest it's a Challenge Tower basically, probably after the story the only thing that will make you stay in the game.

Talking about the story, the fact this game ends with a cliffhanger it's just ridiculous, because DOA7 is already canceled.

The biggest problem of this game are the DLCs. Season Pass 1 is +90$ and it have at least 3 more Season Pass. This problem it's even since Last Round, but at least Last Round offer a Final Version. You have to spend more than 200$ if you wanna have everything.

DOA 6 is not a bad game at all, it's decent and fun, but DOA5LR was the peak, this just feels like a downgrade.

PD: I was playing in Xbox Series S, but the page didn't allow me to select it so I press Xbox One to make the review.

Completed the arcade track on the free version. I like the combat better than DOA5, although that may be the fact that my PC controller is in much better shape than my Xbox 360 controller. Unfortunately, the game is ruined by pedoshit. I have no desire to see characters who are "18," look 12, and are dressed up like BDSM maids or whatever. There's a big difference between pretty ladies and creepy lolicon fanservice.
Between this and Mortal Kombat 11's artists using actual death footage as references for their fatalities, I begin to wonder if fighting game franchises are having some race to the bottom to compete for the tackiest and edgiest content.

I don’t get the all the dislike as I’m new to the series, but this song is dope.

dreaming about what could have been...

A lot of fun, though the costumes are insanely difficult to get enough money to unlock. Still pretty enjoyable and has some great guest characters.

games DLC was so bad they had to reboot the franchise
