I've never done drugs, but I kinda understand what being addicted to something feels like now thanks to this beautiful game.

How funny is to have my digimon die in the middle of a high level place, Just to start the grinding again

Still working on beating this game, but I have enough to work with to give a fair review. Ultimately it's got some pretty big issues, though I'm still having a great time with it despite the problems.

The Good Stuff:

-The music is amazing and they really nail some of the audio beats with matching the energy of each area and especially the ExE Fusions in battle.
-Collecting residents for the town unlocks a ton of unique and different features - Sometimes new facilities pop up that allow you to interact with the game world in different ways, and also occasionally unlocks key mechanics.
-The NPC Digimon are really entertaining and very endearing. I found that I was more engaged by the sidequests and what the Digimon of this world were up to more so than any of the main characters.
-Move sets become very customizable later on and add variety to the combat.

The Neutral Stuff:

I have mixed feelings about this part, but the game doesn't do a great job at explaining how to use basic functions or what some things mean (for example, what any of the stat icons are. I ended up googling these when it became important for planning Digivolution paths).
On one hand, it feels like they intentionally want you to figure certain things out on your own, like how the first few times you raise your partners, digivolution is largely random and there is no way to specifically target one option if your partner meets the requirements for multiple. After getting access to the Digivolution Dojo, you can block off the paths you don't want.
I do like how this allows the player to get used to Digivolution and how it works without stressing about optimizing a Digivolution path right from the start, and to just enjoy the game until things slowly get more complex. Others might understandably find this frustrating though.

The Bad Stuff (There's a lot):

-The story is... not good. Very boring for the most part, some cool things happen, but this really could have been a lot better. Digimon in general has a TON of lore, lending depth and emotion to the worlds and characters in the series which Next Order just drops the ball on SO hard.
-The life cycle mechanic for your partner Digimon is really unique, but upon death, your progression in the game is effectively paused while you train and re-level your partners. They just aren't strong enough to immediately pick up where you left off at the time of their deaths.
-I also keep running into an issue with getting my partners all the way to mega, and they still aren't powerful enough to beat whichever boss is necessary to move on, meaning I have to let them die again, reincarnate with slightly better stats, and try again.
-There are things you can do to increase the effectiveness of training, but those are locked behind progression in the game or by purchasing better training equipment which is expensive - something that is fueled by another problem where money isn't collected quickly enough to keep up with your expenses, and is hard to accumulate at any point.
-Travel is tedious at all times. The game world thankfully isn't really large enough to get lost at any point. The problem is that most of the time, you're just hoofing it from one side of the map to the other - no quicker by-foot options like rideable mounts or even sprinting, just one running speed and it's SLOW. You do get the option to travel directly from the town to a specific area of your choosing eventually, but it is expensive (again, the money issue) and doesn't save that much time imo, so I just chose to walk most of the time anyways.
-An unfortunately huge part of the more difficult fights and bosses is just repeatedly throwing recovery items at your Digimon while you pray that they keep attacking opponents.
-The battle camera is AWFUL no matter which setting you choose.
-The game is VERY hard, even after switching to Easy mode. Enemy accuracy is definitely lowered on Easy, but it also feels like the difficulty changes how much HP your opponents have and not necessarily how hard they hit you. Easy mode makes a fight actually take a more reasonable amount of time instead of dragging on for minutes longer than each fight really needs to. The balance here definitely feels pretty off.

Conclusion:

I feel like I'm being generous by giving this game 3 full stars, but 2 1/2 feels too low with how much I'm actually loving it even considering the massive list of issues I could probably keep adding to.
Ultimately, I'm having a lot of fun and it feels really good to chill with it for an evening to decompress, so I would recommend giving it a try for those who like monster collecting games or anyone who grew up with Digimon like I did. Just meet the game on it's own terms and don't expect a riveting story.

I've been a huge Digimon fan since the beginning of time and absolutely loved this game but due to the obvious flaws I can't give it more than 3 stars.

The gameplay is already known from previous Digimon World parts. You raise your Digimon and train them, while you look for new residents for your city who will make your life easier. The different ways to get Digimon for the city are creative and invite you to discover them
It's a lot of fun raising your two partner Digimon and discovering their new levels. Due to the life cycle of your partners, you always have the opportunity to discover new Digimon and new abilities. I had a great time with that.

However, it also comes with the disadvantage that the gameplay is very grind-heavy. This is definitely not for everyone. This is a big problem, especially in the late game because it actually only consists of grinding a lot in order to defeat some random boss Digimon.
The story also leaves a lot to be desired and doesn't come with any bombastic ideas. However, there are nice Easter Eggs to old Digimon World games, which of course excited me as a fan. Speaking of the world, it shines with different areas and always new Digimon, but the graphical performance is subpar. It is a game for the Playstation 4, which, however, features Playstation 2 graphics.

I actually quite enjoyed this but the start is really slow and tedious. Reminds me of the original Digimon World but doesn't feel the same. Still the same concept though; raise, progress, watch die and repeat, only this time you get 2 of 'em.

Loved it. I am only a bit sad that i played in on the Switch and not on the PC as the Switch doesnt have achievements and i would have loved to complete them in this game.

At a scale 1 out of 10. I would give Digimon World: Next Order a 7. At first, I didn't plan to buy the game nor planned to play it. As I had the impression of being forced to take care of my Digimon's, which is tied to my real life time like Animal Crossing. Although, this isn't the case, which is great.
Overall, I really liked the Story of the game, and the system behind it. I'll probably one of the only ones who's saying the battle system, and grind factor is great. I just love it to walk in a battle, and go outside of it, because I beat em up with one move. It proves the efforts, and time I spent in it. The difficulty spikes are there, if you aren't prepared for sure, but that's the fun of it. There are many different kind of Digimon, and you don't have to set your team as you can use whatever you would like. Assuming you grind them up, hehe. That's really cool! Also the exploring. Oh man - I can't say much about it, it just feels good. I hate it normally, but this was another experience I like. I had to look quite often on the map, and guides, but with some help it's manageable. So last but not least. The music, it's relaxing and chilly. I can't stop to hear it especially when you explore.

It really isn't for me. I am more a Digimon World 3 person than a Digimon World 1 person.

Not as good as the original but it's also great because you have many more Digimons, Evolutions even Jogress.

So far, this game is just a mostly improved version of Digimon World 1. I loved the original and this just updates the graphics and improves the gameplay. It fixes a lot of the problems with the old game that I had and adds some new mechanics that make it quite enjoyable. That being said, I wish a little more effort was put into games like this, as a lot of Digimon games tend to feel stiff and clunky. This definitely continues that trend. Digimon is such a long-lasting and huge IP and deserves a heartfelt series of games made. All that being said, this game still fucks and you should play it if you liked the old Digimon World games.

A really promising reboot of the Digimon World saga that, even with a catchy game loop based on exploration and side quests, is held back by its combat system and focus on grinding.

Digimon is always a flip of a coin. you would either get one of the greatest games you have ever played or one of the worst. You can see by my rating which side I think this game belongs to.

I just can't with this game, it's so fucking ugly
It does nothing better than Decode except having the run button

One of the most unfortunate experiences of hitting the "horizon" in a game that presents itself as open ended. I barely explored the surface of who all I could raise and what all I could do and the game is just over.

It's not been fun that this franchise exists on being a pet raising simulator and the SMT clones and tactical RPG variants of it are far exceeding it. This thing makes me want to drag my V-Pet device back out that's going to yell at me at 3AM and cling onto it for dear life.

I know this isn't for everyone. I know people don't like how much grinding is involved in raising your Digimon or that your Digimon dies in these kinds of games but my gosh I absolutely love the blend of virtual pet raising and RPG mechanics.
It's such a unique experience, you're always building for the future, whether its building up the city by recruiting Digimon, gathering resources to help raise your Digimon or even just training your Digimon at the gym. If you're treating your Digimon properly and doing what you can in each generation, then raising your next generation becomes easier and your Digimon can become even stronger, allowing you to progress even further. It's such a satisfying gameplay loop for me. Yeah I might be spending a couple of hours in the gym raising my Digimon to Mega but by doing so I get a good 10 or so hours exploring the world and recruiting more and more powerful Digimon for the city. I love it so much

It feels like some shitty roblox pet collect pokemon ripoff game but the developper had a heart attack so they couldnt add in the pay to win aspect so you're left with some tedious grind and time waste
seriously like 80% of this game is just preparing for the 20%
I'd give it 2 stars for this but they also removed my man betamon so I give it the lowest possible score

This game is one of the worst I’ve played in ages. It doesn’t know what kind of game it wants to be, and is extremely frustrating due to the death of your digimon starting you back at square one in training, while being at the same place in the story, therefore causing you to grind just to get back to where you were.
