Legitimately think this is the best fight sim game I have ever played!
It's engine should never have been abandoned by the series. There's actual weight and momentum behind the optimal strategies for winning a fight. So much fun and so close to the real experience of watching a UFC fight except you are controlling that shit!

For first time UFC players like myself, there is a strong learning curve to be overcome. I mainly got this as a fan of ufc rather than a fan of these type of games. With that said, once i got into the swing of things, finishing my matches became pretty satisfying, but never more.
Completed one career. lightweight and welterweight champion. Started 2nd career as flyweight but an error didn't allow me to pass 20th in the rankings. Tried again for a 3rd career and the same error happened. Weird.

After the excitement of playing as one of your favorite UFC fighters wares off, you're left with a pretty shallow experience. The single-player mode is extremely repetitive and boils down to a basic (pick opponent-> train -> fight) loop. The striking mechanics are fine, maybe even good, but the lack of diversity in animations makes every fighter feel more or less the same. Grappling is a complete mess and boils down to a silly mini-game, although perhaps they deserve some slack given that no game has been able to make MMA grappling fun yet. I can pretty much copy & paste this review for the next one as well but I suppose that's EA for you.
