still had fun

Gran Turismo 5 was ambitious... maybe too ambitious. The car list is massive, and it looks gorgeous for its time, but man, the load times are a nightmare, and the AI is seriously all over the place. Plus, the massive divide between the super detailed premium cars and the basic ones is jarring. Still, if you're a gearhead and want a nearly endless catalog of cars to tinker with, it's got its charm, but it's a flawed gem.

May qualify as one of the first live-service mega-games that are much more common today. A dizzyingly large car list helps make this game feel almost daunting in scope, but the prevalence of vehicles ported directly from the PS2 iterations are not as well hidden as the game thinks it is, making the overall visual fidelity very uneven. The sheer diversity of races, cars, modes, and customization is here, but the game clearly lost something in the transition to 7th gen.

First Gran Turismo game I got to "completion". Both the UI and progression in this game are probably some of the worst you can get in a racing game. The game still plays well and the car variety is nice, even though some of the cars needed for some races straight up don't appear in the Dealerships, probably betting too much on now defunct online features. I'd only play if you're trying to go through every mainline GT game.

Gameplay and graphics are good, but the progression system is not for me.

Competing for my favorite racing game ever. Great cars, beautiful maps, and several modes that keep you entertained for hours. I once dumped so many hours into this game growing up that I actually considered racing as a profession. Now as it stands, I have lost that dream and am instead stuck as a wage slave for "the man" Let this be a lesson for the kids on this god forsaken website. Do not let your dreams falter. Focus on what it is YOU want out of life. And not what these, horse shit eating, boot licking, cooperate dictating scumbags want you to be. Because once you sign a deal with these soul sucking troglodytes, its so hard to get out. And if you ever find yourself with any doubts of who you are or what you're doing, Just know that your old pal Subby always believes in you. Now go out there and show em why it is your license has been suspended for 2 and a half years.

1ºgran turismo que joguei, curti muito, e me fez curtir demais a franquia e o automobilismo

L'arnaque des voitures premium/classique mais bon, il y avait des courses de nuit avec de la pluie quand Forza Motorsport n'en proposait toujours pas.

Played the Master Mod through RPCS3, so I can guess loading times were almost non-existant compared to playing on an actual PS3.

Quite enjoyable, but it's a shame that it got so linear compared to GT4. I miss that kind of GT mode, especially after GT7 laughed on us that hard.

"Loading" the video game... when I could actually race it was still the GT I enjoyed on the PS2... tis a damn shame I spent more time waiting to play it though.

unironisch ziemlich spaßig braucht aber mehr modellierte innenräume

This is by far my favorite Gran Turismo game. Without playing this, I wouldn't have met some of my best friends.

Unfortunately, I can’t give an objective review of Gran Turismo 5 (Although one can argue that no one can objectively review a subjective experience). GT 5 was given to me at a very young age and was the first proper game I played. Ever since then, I’ve played it on and off. So, you can imagine that my nostalgia for this game is immense. I won't beat around the bush, I am biased. GT 5 has many flaws, the UI is confusing, everything still sounds like a vacuum cleaner and there is less than events to do than before. Many consider it a downgrade from the last instalment. However, for me, GT 5 will always hold a special place in my heart and I will continue coming back even years later.
Would I recommend it? Well, it's still a good racing game, but even though I haven’t played any of the later releases, I can’t imagine that GT 5 has something that they don’t have.

Story
None, Gran Turismo they’ve never had a storyline.

Mechanics and gameplay
The formula hasn’t changed for GT 5. You race, you get more cars, more races are unlocked. Licence test are still here and still hard. The missions are more varied and interesting. The big new addition for the series is the multiplayer. You can play with multiple people from the same console with split screen, unfortunately the servers for online play are long gone. I never did experience it, even though I had the game back when it was available.
I have never driven an actual car, so I can’t tell you whether the driving is realistic. I did find it enjoyable, responsive and overall, a good experience, that provides enough of a challenge that to be a good driver, takes skill.
1074 cars and 77 tracks with dynamic whether are enough for everyone right? I guess not considering Gran Turismo 6 exists.

Graphics/Artstyle
When it was released, GT 5 was ahead of its time graphics wise, of course now it's clear that this is an old game. Still, a good enough picture could fool the unsuspecting eye.
Did you know all the cars from GT 4 were ported to GT 5 with tweaked models? Many have complained that it's obvious simply by looking at the model to differentiate which is from the old gen. Personally, I had no idea, I played this game for close to a decade and just recently found this out. Make of that what you will.
Car sound are still vacuum cleaner level.
Still has the professional, clean style that is common with the Gran Turismo series.

Atmosphere/Immersion
The game doesn’t really try to immerse you into its world, mainly because it doesn’t have one. The barrier between game and reality is as clear as day.
I think that is to be expected with this genre.

Soundtrack
The OST can be split into two – the relaxing menu music and the race music. The menu music is mainly jazz and classical and is incredible. Many hours have been spent listening to it while preforming some other tasks.
The race music is also great, it features multiple genres of music like rock electronic and others from a variety of artists.
My favourite part is “5oul On D!splay” by Daiki Kasho. It’s a real shame that it isn’t on any streaming platform.

Final Thoughts
Young me absolutely NEVER used the brake, full throttle throughout the whole race. It is a logical conclusion. After all, why would you want to press the button that makes you go slower.

Met my best friends on this game, greatest and most fun racing game I’ve ever played.

no me gustan los juegos de carreras realistas

Whoever says the licences in this game must be essential, absolutely participates Dick Worship Festival every time.

My first and unfortunate acquaintance with the series. I was NOT ready back then.

This bitch chugs. The PS3 wants to download 27 updates when you boot it that are bigger than the Super Slim’s hard drive. And then if you just skip the updates it still wants to install 8GB to the system. It feels like a real barebones simulator; a too realistic to be fun game with load times that are just kinda crazy. I feel like Forza just blew away Polyphony sometime in the 2010s letting you configure a lot more of the realism aspects to your preference in a nicer UI. As far as I’m aware GT just invented making me take a pretend license exam after this.

pistte sadece dönüyon o kadar bütün oyun

I made 7 cups of tea on 1 loading screen. This is not a joke.

One of the first racing games I remember playing and enjoying, loved the story/career mode thing, and the intro was so cool. I remember thinking "how will a game ever look better than this?"

Another game I grew up on. I've probably clocked in over 1000 hours on this game (same as LBP1). I still have found memories of doing the 24 races with my dad, he would play throughout the night (using the busted ass Red Bull Car) park it up and then before I went to school in the morning I would play a bit. So much customization, car selection was endless, and is one of the biggest reasons why I absolutely adore motorsport and cars.
