Where episode 1 was weird and just like an extra footnote to HL2, not really doing much interesting gameplay-wise, barely leaving City 17 at all, episode 2 really pushes the plot forward and does it much better than episode 1. The gameplay and level design is much cooler in this one with the forest environments, vortigaunt partner, and extended usage of the car (which I loved playing around with). Hunting grubs was pretty fun in the mines (though I missed around 20), but the intense focus on antlions throughout like 60% of the game was a bit strange. One thing that annoyed me was the strider defense segment near the end- I ended up working it out fine, but it was quite annoying at first especially with the horde of hunters that would just shoot the bomb out of your hands. In all, super good game and is furthermore retroactively even more interesting due to the ending of Half Life Alyx.
I don't know what else I can say about this, really.
Just more Half-Life 2 with maybe some more exciting moments and set pieces. I really like killing the striders with the weird bomb ball thingy.
UUuuuhh...Yeah that's it, I didn't really grow that attached to these characters, so the cliffhanger ending didn't make me lose any sleep. Although maybe that is just because I know that we will never get a Half-Life 3, so I just don't give a shit about the story.

This is such an upgrade compared to ep1 it's actually insane. The little over 4 hour experience I had in this game was more enjoyable than all of hl1 and that is insane. The level and mission design is so more iconic than ep1 and the new gimmicks also are so much more enjoyable to play around with. The ending too is just insane. The last hour experience is probably my favourite sequence of missions in a HL game. If you haven't played this game, whether you just haven't gotten around to it a bit or were turned off by the kinda underwhelming experience of ep1, playing this game should be your top priority as it is so barely close to being as good as HL2
Man! This game is peak Half Life. Every chapter was a blast. The combat, puzzles, new mechanics and level design, all are the best of the series. The game is little shorter than HL2 but, it is the extract of the best of HL 1 and 2. Hunters are the most fun enemy to fight with. The battle in the White Forest base reminds me of the HECU invasion of Black Mesa in HL1.
