I shall continue reading the entire series someday.

Fun fact, the skill tree in Path of Exile was inspired by this thing's family tree (it's true).

Thank you Noelle and Ophelia for showing me this. Game of all time.

White women cause all the worlds problems

The setting feels classic, the music is nice, the characters and their interactions are fun and interesting enough. Reiji is a solid main character and holds up a lot of the maturity of the game's atmosphere with his cold reactions to a lot of the murders, though his lack of emotional reaction toward Toko's condition and kidnapping at the end of the game feels strange and lessens the impact. The story ends up feeling like it's juggling a few too many characters given how short it is and there's the occasional out-of-place sex scene as well, so overall the story feels more lacking than it could've been. The murders and their grotesque imagery do a good job of driving home the depravity of the antagonists and making you want to solve the mystery just as much as Reiji, but the gameplay unfortunately sabotages this with its unnecessarily complicated choice requirements to reach the ending. Having to check the walkthrough at every choice was a pain but it's better than wasting a dozen hours trying different choices.

guys, this is actually really bad lol

This game feels like actual art.
It has a great balance of scarring gory material with despair-filled atmospheric moments that are sure to leave a lasting impression on anyone who reads this.
Accompanied by downright gorgeous visuals and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack this visual novel is one of the best out there.

Como meu namorado even sabe disso

Visual Novel writers will literally write a 20+ hour read about nothing of worth happening

I think Touko needs a break my guy

To no hype pro Second Episode, essa introdução me deixou curioso pra sequência.

Wow!!! Kara no Shoujo is such a massive step up from Cartagra, though I don't regret playing its predecessor (as there were multiple moments where playing it gave me a little extra somethin-somethin). Everything is better. Better characters, better story, better art, better gameplay that actually has you investigating and, more importantly, gives you the opportunity to get things wrong and watch how that plays out, which is something I almost NEVER see... this is considered one of the best VNs out there, and for good reason. Yes, you have to wade through a lot of offputting sexual and grotesque violent content (and a lot of it mashes the two up, which is disgusting), but I think the overall experience makes it worth it. My biggest complaint really is that the ending lacks that big "holy shit" climax that Cartagra and most other VNs have (though it does have multiple "holy shit" moments throughout the narrative that more than make up for it), instead opting to set up for the sequel. Still, you can't really go wrong with this one. Probably the best mystery VN that I've played thus far. 7/10.

3 ways it could be better:
1. Cut out ALL the sex scenes
2. Make it more linear with less obscure dead ends
3. Have the protagonist physically open his notebook and fill in "had sex with" into his crazy character relationship diagram whenever he has sex with someone

A game about a quest for identity, fittingly set in the reconstruction period after WW2 when Japan struggled to regain a sense of cultural identity following the downfall of the Japanese empire. There's a permanent feeling of melancholy as characters struggle to find direction, often searching for external factors to justify themselves rather than looking within. It's not always the easiest read, not just because of the upsetting and ugly content but also the amount of repetition and the practical need for a walkthrough, but I definitely found myself captivated by this portrayal of 1950s Tokyo. Absolutely worth a read for anybody interested in VNs.

Quite engaging. This scarred me a bit because it was the first "gory" VN I experienced, I wasn't prepared for some of the scenes.
