One of the main reasons I had not replayed Kirby's Dream Land 2 in almost fifteen years were the visuals. Regardless of how I might protest otherwise, graphical presentation does, in fact, matter to me, especially when it comes to older games. Kirby's Dream Land 2 is a very nice little game and a solid Gameboy game on its own, but when played on even a Gameboy Advance, its tri-color presentation tends to bring out the feelings I have with the rest of the game; a sense of dull apathy. A "yeah, this is alright I guess, but I'll stop after this level's over". Dream Land 2 on its own is simple, relatively uncomplicated, and doesn't really have any stand out features beyond the introduction of Kirby's animal friends (and the secret level layout in 5-5). So if I'm me, 25, choosing between Kirby's Dream Land 2 and something similar, like Kirby's Adventure, I'm more likely to choose Kirby's Adventure because "haha it looks pretty".

Well, no longer!

Kirby's Dream Land 2 DX is the exact upgrade the original game needed: a direct port to the Gameboy Color. With the added color, the visuals pop! These neat little background details are now not only visible, but actively interesting too. Maybe it was just because the colors had folded into the flaps of my brain, but I did not remember how detailed some of the level select maps were in this game. Red Canyon, and Cloudy Park are my personal favorites. The former takes on this deep rusty-orange color scheme that accurately reflects its name while still having little tufts of green that add some lovely contrast. The latter now has so much more detail in its background, like little spires and tints of yellow on the clouds, which provide a tasteful contrast against the soft purples and grays of the mountain landscape. These two are made especially more impactful upon reaching the final zone, Dark Castle, which still maintains a tricolor aesthetic, now just with purples, grays and black. This trichromatic final zone really stands out as a "dark imposing site" with the addition of color to every other zone in the game. It has to be seen to be experienced in full.

Dream Land 2 DX is absolutely the definitive way to play Kirby's Dream Land 2. Beyond the obvious improvements with the visuals, there are also a few measures taken to reduce any slowdown in the software, which is a godsend against later bosses. I distinctly recall being quite frustrated fighting later bosses and having my inputs eaten because I was trying to both move, jump and spit at the same time. While still not perfect, Dream Land 2 DX makes me feel like I have slightly better control over Kirby. This control really makes a difference in the last few parts of the game, especially against the fight against the boss at the end of Dark Castle (even if its still bullshit at times).

If you're looking to play Kirby's Dream Land 2 in any capacity, I cannot recommend this version enough. It's worth your time to find a cute little emulator, a corresponding rom of the game, and patching it with the excellent work done by kkzero. It's a short game, that still holds up quite well for a game turning 30 next year, and its made all the more interesting and fun with the addition of color.

é bom, os animais que ajudam o kirbo são divertidos

It's pretty much a standard Kirby game. Everything about the game just screams plain cute and charming, but gameplay itself manages to be actually quite hard. There isn't much too much unfairness in my opinion, levels and bosses can be willed through with sheer perseverance and they have their patterns that aren't too difficult to master.

It wasn't until the end until the game started to show it's cracks. The levels felt like going on and on with difficult spots and while the last world has some shorter levels, they still manage to ruin them with trial-and-error-autoscroller segments. Still, King Dedede returned back to normal formula and managed to be fair boss, though on the tougher side.

The colorization hack itself does a great job bringing this game to GBC. It even runs well on the original hardware with a flash cart. (I've learned this isn't a given with all GB hacks.)

Uhhhh...
Really pretty, really aesthetic, rather interesting, but so, so, so, so bat shit crazy dude.
I feel like my ass got ripped just trying to get through the casual bosses, and that's not even the worst part. Let me talk about the BIGGER bosses.
Hard to beat, super hard to get their patters most of the times, and even though i love how detailed it was made I just couldn't get into why some of the bosses were SO random and everything was so unbearable at some point.
I was struggling so much only for the 7th level to be just ''go around the monster without getting hit and go into a door'' which is literally the most easiest thing ever and then gives me the most crazy ass boss.
I like this game, the aesthetics really were amazing, the colors were perfect for me, quite bright, but not so much, it's the ambience that I was digging, but most things were just taken from the first game, which isn't always a bad thing, but i just can't overlook the fact that this is just the same game but .... longer?
I liked the companions, super cute, super sweet designs, but i didn't like how this game is giving you for an example earth companions when you need Kine in the water. At least it did this for me a couple of times and it wasn't very cool.
I liked how you can get the powers of your enemies until you get hit (even though even then you can get it back), I enjoyed this aspect more than the first game also.
The music is somehow supppppper similar to the first one, with songs from the first one here and there from what i heard, but i didn't mind it, it was good enough to set the vibe.

I love how this game is literally saying in the end ''The end???'' , while i am playing it in 2023 with the franchise being with 12093810928398123 games already, lol.

Dreamland 2 dx is a wonderful version of dreamland 2 that fixes the biggest problem of the animal buddy music drowning out the rest of the soundtrack and only occasionally makes a questionable color choice.

As for base dreamland 2 it’s pretty good. Later games in the dark matter trilogy take advantage of more powerful hardware to create a strong visual style and atmosphere. A gameboy game obviously can’t do that but the game does a good job at taking the more complex structure of adventure and bringing it back to the gameboy. The collectibles in world 4 and 6 are hitler though.

This is just a really nice coloration of the original game. The game itself is a fine enough little romp. The last two Rainbow Shards are a bit annoying to get, and the true final boss is a bit of a time waster.

Wow! These colorized GB DX games are just getting better, this one might be one of my favorites so far.

bem impressionante o avanço com relação ao jogo anterior, e esse hack deixa as coisas ainda melhores. acaba sendo uma experiência bem próxima a Nightmare in Dream Land.
