Tedious, tedious gameplay. The story wasn't too awful.

Murdered: Soul Suspect had a cool idea – you play as a detective ghost trying to solve your own murder! The detective stuff is interesting, and uncovering the mystery can be engaging. But the gameplay itself can be clunky, and the ghost powers aren't as fleshed out as they could be. The story has its twists, but overall it feels a bit unfinished. If you like detective games and don't mind some jank, it might be worth checking out on sale.

To be honest, this game, even if it was short and simplistic, it was decent and it fulfilled its purpose. You play as the ghost of a dead detective and you go on an adventure to find the culprit, the one who killed you.
For the gameplay itself, there's not that much to it, its more of an walking simulator but it doesn't need to be more.
A game where you play as a ghost and you interact with other ghosts isn't something you see everyday, and i feel like this was the main attraction.
That being said, Murdered: Soul Suspect is a quite unique game that captured the mortuary atmosphere well and even if the story is nothing amazing, for a 6-8 hours game i think it's worth checking.

Just found out this game was developed by the same studio that made Dark Void and wow, these dudes couldn’t do anything right, huh?

Man I really miss these type of simple story games with a bit of action, adventure and mystery. Nowadays most of the games try to be hardcore RPG or looter shooter.

Uh. I really don't know what to say about this game.
Handful of hours I'll never get back.

It had something janky that I didn't enjoy but I have a remember a good feeling at the end

Não costumo jogar jogos de investigação e achei interessante a proposta desse. Gostei muito. O final foi surpreendente

cool af concept and fun playing as a ghost (i remember constantly trying to walk through walls in the game i played after this), slightly unmemorable mystery as it’s only been a couple months since i played it and i had to google just now who the murderer was lmao. tries to act like an open world game but felt super limiting where you could go, obviously it’s a linear story but i’d love to play a game with a similar ghostly concept but more world to explore. fun tho, still got pretty hooked and is worth getting on sale!

this game was actually so good. you literally solve your own murder. thats so sick

Although I'm not a fan of horror, I was able to play through this one without being too scared 😅 I enjoyed the story, and the way you had to do the detective work was interesting. It's worth checking out if you enjoy puzzles, murder mysteries and some horror elements.

I have a lot of time for games like this where you're a mad ghost detective and you just walk about trying to solve your own murder.

Great concept. It's been quite a while, but I still remember that everything was terribly slow. I was intrigued though, and got most of the achievements. Would like more modern versions of this.

Sights & Sounds
- Given that this game originally released on PS3, that's a good starting point if you're trying to imagine the graphical quality. By that benchmark, the PC version I played looked perhaps a little better than that, but it's been over a decade since I even looked at a PS3, so maybe I'm a little off. In any case, sure, it's a little dated, but it looks fine enough
- Beyond the quality of the textures and lighting, the character animations look a little stiff. I also noticed that cutscene framerate appeared to be locked to 30 FPS, so they looked a little choppy
- The soundtrack is passable and notably cinematic. Sounds like a bunch of action horror movie compositions. That is to say, be prepared for a lot of anxious-sounding strings and thundering percussion

Story & Vibes
- Surprise, you're dead. Yup. Five minutes into the game and our protagonist has already kicked the bucket. The good news is that the afterlife is real. The bad news is that you have to figure out who killed you and why before you move on
- It's a fun twist on the usual detective/investigation premise, I must admit. Unfortunately, in practice, Murdered: Soul Suspect often feels like just another investigation game. Just make all the bad guys demons instead of thugs, and you're 80% of the way there
- There is a fun little narrative undercurrent that paints parallels to the Salem Witch Trials owing to the fact that the game takes place in Salem, Massachusetts. It's a little bit of a stretch, but I never mind having a little bit of real-world history in my games. I'm just glad that they were able to weave that history into the overarching narrative in the latter third of the game, or otherwise it would have felt a little forced
- That said, there was no mention of Giles Corey despite the references to the "pressing" method of execution. Seriously, if you're unfamiliar with the story of that man, look him up
- Vibe-wise, despite being full of ghosts and demons, Murdered: Soul Suspect isn't very scary (or even all that creepy). The only time I was ever slightly disturbed was when I interviewed a well-hidden ghost woman hanging out a balcony to hear about why she died. Her story was a bit more unsettling than the other ghosts I interviewed, to say the least

Playability & Replayability
- This title plays as a (mostly) open world affair with heavy emphases on investigation, exploration, and collectibles
- The main gameplay loop involves going to a waypointed mission locale, poking around for collectibles and evidence, and trying to navigate to an investigation location. Once you enter one of these investigation sites, you'll get a little notification (and often a cutscene) to let you know that you need to poke around in that area a little harder
- Once you've gathered all the clues--or at least the ones necessary for progress--you can conclude your investigation and make some conjecture that should direct you to the next plot point. Don't worry, the answers are usually pretty clear, and you get 3 strikes before failing
- "Combat", if you can indeed call it that, is just about as barebones of a stealth experience as I can envision. You just sneak up behind demons and do a quicktime event. That's it
- Beyond your uninspiring demon-slaying, you can also walk through walls and possess cats. That's about it for abilities, unless you count being able to hide in "shadows" during stealth segments as an additional ability (I don't)
- I managed to 100% the game, so I don't think I'll be back for a replay

Overall Impressions & Performance
- Murdered: Soul Suspect is not a bad game. Not a good one either. It's got a nice premise going for it, but the rest of the game is surprisingly bland. None of the characters are all that likeable or relatable, the gameplay isn't very fun, and the story doesn't live up to its billing. It does just enough to keep you from getting bored while also doing nothing to surprise or impress you
- It ran flawlessly on the Steam Deck, at least, which was nice

Final Verdict
- 5/10. When it comes down to these coinflip ratings, I usually go with a gut feeling regarding whether or not I should recommend it. If you can pick it up deeply discounted (not hard) and are a detective game diehard, give it a try. If not, you're not missing out on very much

Infravaloradísimo, le jugué porque le compré con una oferta enorme en que estaba por 2 euros y me quedé bastante loco. Es un juego con una historia realmente original, una jugabilidad muy chula y unas subtramas de investigación muy muy chulas.

It was a interesting and fun (whilst it lasted) Sherlock Holmes type of game! Good shit I got it for Gold and not with real money!

An interesting detective game in an unusual setting, with a strong plot component. There are not many additional tasks, but each is interesting in its own way. Of the minuses: the surrounding world and interaction with it are poorly disclosed.

I remember not hating the game. Wasn't great, but wasn't terrible, either. Didn't really have a big backlog back when I played it and it was like 2 bucks or so. Time averagely spent, I'd say.

I just remembered that I played this game years ago but never beat it. I plan on getting it for PS4 and giving it a proper play and finish. While not a great game, by any means, I hold it as a guilty pleasure game.

At the same time, I liked this game and no, the concept is not very hackneyed, you, as the main character, were killed and you need to get out, get along in the world of ghosts, and actually finish it. that you didn't have time. But I won’t forgive it for its shortness and dead ending. Why wasn’t the full potential of dead life revealed, it’s not clear why the ending was killed off like that, was the deadline rushed? It's worth playing, but only if you really like detective stories in games, that's enough here.

They really made a whole ass video game out of the aesthetic of that duvet cover with the skeleton hugging a naked goth girl

Before we start, let me say that this won’t be as in depth because I have a bad memory and this game was completed in December.

This game was on sale as part of the year-end sale. I looked it up and it looked like a unique and interesting concept.

Without spoiling anything, you play as a ghost detective who has to solve his own murder in order to move on to the afterlife, but his murder ends up being part of a string of murders that had been plaguing Salem (you know, that place where the witch trials took place.)

I’ve seen loads of detective games, but none where you play as a ghost. Actually, I don’t think I know of any games where you play as a ghost, either.

Wait, you can do that in Among Us lmao

Anyway, this game seemed intriguing and it was on sale so I took a chance on it. I was surprised to find out it’s a Square Enix game because apparently, I can’t feckin’ read. I was hooked on this game from the moment I started it!

The story is really intriguing and so are the ghost abilities you develop as the game progresses. You can’t just enter homes, you have to possess someone and follow them inside and there are some structures you can’t go through so you gotta find a way around.

There are also these short side stories to complete (which you need for the platinum.) The collectibles aren’t too difficult to find, but there are a few in unlikely places. I did have to start a new game because there’s no chapter select however, the game saves your progress. So if you start a new game and you find the one collectible that you’re missing, it’ll trigger the trophy!

Like most detective games, I try to figure out who is responsible for whatever the crime is and this game is no exception. I thought I was right, but there was a major twist at the end that threw me for a loop. My jaw was literally hanging open, I couldn’t believe it!

It starts a bit slow, like most games, but once I started to get further into the story, I really got hooked. There weren’t any bugs or glitches that I noticed and the voice acting was really good. I love the main character, Ronan. Even his name is cool! Ronan O’Conner, damn.

This game also has one of my favorite quotes:

“We all got a dark side. Sometimes obvious, sometimes hidden. If we’re lucky, we keep our dark side hidden.” – Ronan

I’m so glad I took a chance on this game, it was fantastic!

why do i keep finding the mediocre games i have played ten years ago and logging then to appear in my page as "games i have played". maybe im going literally insane.
in this game, the reason why you, a ghost, cannot ghost through walls, is because - and they make a point in telling you this - all the buildings, every construction in the goddamned town were, in some point of the past, consecrated. every. single. one. of them was blessed, anointed or whatever. thats the kinda of game this is. agressively mediocre.
and i know that i beated it this game back then but, kid you not, i dont remeber who killed the guy. who the fuck is the soul suspect???????

Enjoyed the story, especially liked that the plot isn't what I thought it was. Characters were well written and I genuinely enjoyed exploring Salem and getting all the collectibles. The cool thing about playing it again and knowing what is going on is that the cut scenes and some of the character interactions take on a whole new meaning.
