While this game introduces the absurd amount of coins you can collect, it still very much just another new super mario bros, final castle was cool atleast

Misses the charm of the original

Solid Mario platformer and I enjoy collecting coins in this game, which is intended by this game!

The coin theme was amazing and smooth. Probably the best new super mario bros (unpopular opinion)

one of my worst decisions as a child was to buy this game. so boring...

While not adding much "new" stuff to the series, on its own it is a solid Mario platformer with good level design and power ups. Not original, but that does not make it a bad game.

No es mal juego pero cuando llegas 20 new super Mario Bros seguidos haciendo lo mismo cansa un poco.

My favorite out of the "New" series. No real reason though lol

I remember this game being the standard level of 2D Mario fun, but it blends in with all the other NSMB games in my memory.

Earned all stars on my save file, and maxed out the lives counter. As I no longer have my 3DS, I will not be returning to this game, thought as my first game in the handheld's library, I have many fond memories playing it to completion.

i mean. yeah this game does exist

Not too much to say about this game, besides the fact that it’s not that good, and the coin gimmick got so overdone by end of the second world. I liked how the tanooki leaf returned but that was about it. The other “new” power up’s introduced just felt like they were playing into the coin gimmick. Overall, not good, 2.5 out of 5 stars.

The coin gimmick gets old by level 2. There's a reason that these coin levels were used sparingly in the past, that being they are supposed to reward the players with dopamine for a short break, or as a reward for finding a secret. The platforming aspects are fine at least.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is a game that exists.

A perfectly serviceable entry in the New Soup lineup, which is enjoyable to play but the main gimmick ends up rather confusing. It’s all about collecting as many coins as possible, but in the end all that does is having you get showered in 1-ups. What’s a hundred coins worth anymore when there’s millions all over the stages? When does the little ‘bling’ of collecting coins turn boring when you realise that the game does nothing creative with them besides giving you a ton more than usual? A shop to use your crazy amount of coins could’ve been nice, or levels that unlock after a certain amount of coins has been collected, but as it is, it’s a boring gimmick that doesn’t bring much variety with it. The game underneath that gimmick is about as good as any other New Soup game, but that’s not much to write home about.

Such a "fine" game. Very inoffensive but does nothing to inspire. Came out alongside New Super Mario Bros U and the NSMB fatigue was at an all time high. Its not bad by any means but your time would be better spent with almost any other 2D mario title. (play Mario Land 1 and 2)

still remember beating this on release day

Why do I feel like I've already seen all of this despite it being my first 2D Mario?

I 100%ed this in 3 days. This game is great, and if these games weren't so perceived as "saturation" they would really be considered classics. A lot of the star coins I missed the first time amounted to "there is a hidden block that has no indication that it is there" which really sucked.

Exceedingly mediocre, and the “impossible pack” DLC really shows Nintendo is incapable of designing fun but difficult levels
