Hardest title for a game ever (cute reference for the nerds), deserved to be a better game.
Going full on survival and expecting more from the player like no other zombie game has before is fuckin rad, better emulating the feel of the movies, but it's too much of a janky and buggy bugger to realise that potential. Then again, I only played this back in 2016, so maybe it got better, but I just never went back... too scawy :(

Peak zombie game.
Great gameplay mechanics, forces you to strategize your resources and makes relatively easy encounters go from 0 to 100. The lighting also adds to the horror as well as the ambient music. For some reason you can play as Patrick Bateman from American Psycho and Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski which is cool
Also you can kill yourself if you want to

Been playing this for 8+ years, this game is a hidden gem. It does a lot of things really good, like the ambience and the sense of urgency of the situation you are involved in... But it is TERRIBLY outdated. Time has not been kind to this game, and I hope for the second installment to fix everything and finally give it a 5 stars. The fundamentals are here, don't mess them up please.
A noble attempt at bringing realistic gameplay to online co-op zombie games that works partially. It might be too hard given there isn't a proper tutorial and instead there's an official guide linked in the main menu, which is literally a player manual in the form of a Steam guide, but still, it's hard as hell. Once you get a grip on the mechanics and how the game works it becomes less difficult, although it never becomes easy. The combat doesn't have enough feedback which is a big drawback for newcomers, there's barely a feeling of "punch" when you shoot or push a zombie and sometimes you'll think you've hitted a zombie when you haven't.
A problem it has is that the online servers are mostly modified, meaning that if you want to play the OG experience you must either search for official un-modified servers, which all of them are set in the US so the ping is way high, or make your own server, which I won't get into details but it's nearly impossible to get it working by yourself. If you couldn't, you will spend most of the time playing workshop maps with gameplay changes. And that wouldn't matter to me at all if the excellent atmosphere wasn't ruined by addons and mediocre workshop maps. Tho this is mostly a "Source-based online games" problem, because CS:S worked the same way, which is also kind of lame, but sadly there's not much I can do about it.
I hope the sequel improves upon all the problems this game has, because it has good ideas, one of them being that you really feel the slow gameplay with the characters and the combat, but the execution is half-way there, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
