Radiant Historia starts extremely strong, with a puzzle-box-esque structure to the time travel that sets itself apart from Chrono Trigger despite all the noise to the contrary, and a combat system that has so much going on it made me feel like a genius once I learned to capitalize on all of the mechanics. However, by about the halfway point the cracks began to show. The story refuses to reveal many of its biggest mysterious until it's foreshadowed them on such a large variety of occasions there is no impact when they land. Likewise, the combat system lost its charm for me as things didn't develop into interesting directions, particularly highlighted by having a really bad XP curve and questionable skillsets that makes using anything other than a couple of party members kind of pointless. The added narrative content of the Perfect Chronology version also undermines what did work about the story the base game was trying to tell, particularly the ending of the base game which is so bold that undercutting it feels like it should be a crime. I still liked this game quite a bit, but the problem areas grated me enough that I couldn't love it wholeheartedly the way I wanted to from the opening hours.

I absolutely love the combat system in this game. Its graphics are so crisp, and navigating through the timelines was a mechanic that I greatly appreciated, adding many layers to the story. Finally, something I must highlight is the character design; the character arts are beautiful! This title breaks away from the generic anime comfort zone that many games fall into and does something different and very well executed. The artists of this game did an excellent job!

Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology FINISHED! 11/10 is a wonderful game! I had a TOTAL of 82:55 hours of game time until I did 100% of the time missions and bad endings and also the Possible world which is an addition to this version and leaves the game with a closed ending, it is very satisfying to see the hard work be finalized. Everything in the game has a closed ending without leaving any doubt in the player, and showing the end of each character in your party among others who helped you.

Lippti and Teo are intermediaries from that world where no matter what they did they only found misery, in countless timelines and always the world was destroyed by desertification, where the mana was being drained, and everything turned into sand and they only managed to end with this horrible ending thanks to the help of Stocke who became the bearer of the White Chronicles, Lippti and Teo are responsible for guiding Stocke through the timelines, avoiding any of them leading to the end of the world, a wrong decision, a villain killed in the wrong moment even a spy who is killed before his time would end up in a bad ending, this applies to members of your party as well when making the wrong choice ending you are saved and return to the gates of time, and with those memories saved and recorded in the White Chronicle, all your actions and missions are recorded in the book.

About your Party partners, for me, they are all unique and perfect! None are there to make numbers, all have an important role in the game's history, all have a goal.

About the story and writing of the game, all I have to say is praise, the exciting moments I can't count on one hand 😱 and the game is 100% dubbed from start to finish, which makes everything even more immersive and enjoyable. Let's face it, the game unfortunately doesn't have Japanese dubbing, I have no idea why at the time of the Nintendo 3DS, many localized games only had American dubbing, but I have to praise the Atlus team, they brought professionals who know how to dub a game and it was incredible!
I'm glad I discovered Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology

Many people compare it to Chrono Trigger, and not without good reason. A great time-travel RPG that reminded me a bit of Virtue's Last Reward structure-wise. The story and characters were great, the music was really good and the battle system was also very innovative. Overall, it's a shame that it only came out on the DS/3DS because all JRPG fans should have tried this game. It really is so much better than what you get as AAA on stationary consoles today.

Jugué el ori en su día, para mí el mejor JRPG de NDS, y este remake es fantåstico. El contenido añadido, la revisión artística, las facilidades en gameplay, todo. Una pena que este no esté traducido por fans, pero es un pepino de juego. Top

People might say this might be one of the best JRPGs the DS/3DS has to offer and I’m willing to agree with them. The story is gripping from the very start and the intrigue and mystery of the war in Valinqeuer and the white chronicle are compelling in building up to a climactic epic. What I found particularly unique is how well the gameplay and narrative intersects as a story device being tied to the actual gameplay with the white chronicle time travel mechanics used to navigate through the game.

I found the gameplay to actually be above typical JRPG standard-fare with the combo mechanics and enemy placement pretty engaging to learn though I found it to be pretty repetitive once you got the one combo that’s always a guarantee. Also a big issue is the nature of its progression as due to the switch between timelines means that characters won’t be with you through most of the games leading to most of your other party members besides Raynie and Marco to being underleveled. More an inconvenience than an actual flaw though since it's not really an issue as long as you’re fine with those two particular characters.

A lot of the characters are easy to get invested with as they all feel really human with the adequate amount of dialogue given to each important playable member (except Gutral, monkey folks really got shafted there). Even characters who I thought were going to stay as sidekicks actually got their spotlight like Kiel which made their highlight scenes pretty emotional. However, I have some gripes with it. Some events that occur off screen are unexplained and just handwaved like how Princess Eruca managed to contact the Gutrals or how Raul managed to get a hold of Princess Eruca in Cygna. These are minor issues though as it really doesn’t bother with my overall immersion in its narrative.

The visuals are amazing with how charming the sprite graphics are mixed with the gorgeous character portraits, be it the original DS or updated 3DS version with some amazing art in key important scenes. Pair this with an absolute banger Yoko Shimomura soundtrack and this is pretty close to a masterpiece in terms of presentation. It's funny that it reuses a lot of its assets from the DS era but I’d say this game is easily one of the best looking of the 3DS library.

Overall this game was actually worth all the hype people were pushing it for. It's one of those games where I’m actually going to 100% complete it because of how seamless the overall experience is that I just want to keep going. Just a solid package all-around, 8.5/10.

Joguem!

Reject Alistel Return to Fogia

One of the best rpgs I have played , and one of the only games I have seen that did time travel correctly where it made sense . The music is great, so are the characters , the battle system is quite different but fun when you get the hang of it . It's a must play ^v^

I loved the spliit timeline mechanics. Also, the option to see the bad endings is great. For me, the only issue is that the MC is not developed enough, when you compare him to the companions.

I have to play more JRPGS man, lots of positive's things to point out of this, tho also some annoyances. First off, the voice acting is a neat addition and the fast paced combat (for a turn based rpg) is pretty fantastic! never got bored of it, the characters were also pretty good and I actually cared about them. Art style is the major reason for picking this one up because it reminded me of Pokémon Black/White, with a touch of medieval fantasy. My downsides for this game are minor, like there is a part where it drags a bit (slaying and using the cubes) and how convoluted some of the side quests were. Overall... underrated asf.

Legitimately special JRPG that could have been one of the very best of its genre had its remarkable foundation be more polished.
+ intriguing story centered around a unique time travelling mechanic that lets one replay anything at any time and choose different outcomes
+ inspired turn-based battle system focused on positioning and combos
+ almost exclusively important side quests whose completion leads to an extensive epilogue
+ very solid cast explored from various angles
+ beautifully melancholic soundtrack (of which some tracks are overused, however)
+ multiple antagonists from different factions keeping the suspense high
+ numerous interesting albeit short and forced "what if" scenarios on wrong choices
+ satisfactory quality of life with the ability to skip all kinds of repetition — ignoring the bothersome party formation resets
- well-conceptualized but rather small continent
- generic character portraits compared to the original game version
- poor utilization of the battle mechanics toward the end
- occasionally unreasonable steps to progress (e.g. a random NPC only present in one of the dozen time nodes)
- very low money and experience gain without the DLC (which is unobtainable legally now and also trivializes everything)

I played some of this game on my old Nintendo DS, and found it to be kind of mid. I didn't like the characters that much (they made a good first impression and then never developed beyond those impressions), and the battles were too slow.

Gaming discourse loves this game, though. Every reviewer and JRPG youtuber seems convinced that this one is a masterpiece, a stellar JRPG, a spiritual successor to Chrono Trigger.

I can't see what these people saw in this game. The story is very boring, so much that it propelled me to finish the game out of sheer spite. The mechanics are still meh. And I've also found the time travelling stuff to be very boring.

IDK. People love this game and the consensus is that this is a very good JRPG. I really can't agree with this. This game is mid and I didn't like it. I heard that this version has a different ending than the original DS game. If so, I wonder why they did it, because the ending of this game is awful (a sugar coated happy ending that feels like it was tacked on).

In league with games like Chrono Trigger

One of the best JRPGS period. The voice acting in this version brings new life compared to the original. One of the few games that does time travel in a way that doesn't feel too repetitive and wish more games followed its example. Its a must play if you like games like Chrono Trigger. Only critiscm is I prefer the original art style on the 3ds for a few of the characters but that's such a small gripe and doesn't bother me too much.

The best RPG the 3DS has to offer. Its turn-based combat is quite refreshing, and I had fun trying to maximize my combos and try to kill everything in one turn. The story also excellent and has great pacing (drags a bit in the midgame, but nothing too big), while most notably managing to do time travel without making the story a comvoluted mess. If you find yourself in a position to play 3DS games, I strongly suggest you at least give this game a go.

One part I'm not a fan of, though, is the content added in Perfect Chronology. In my opinion, it kinda lessens the original ending while also making the new ending a bit too convoluted for me. You can also easily tell what was in the original and what was in Perfect Chronology (this comes from a European player who couldn't get his hands on the original release on DS)

Shout out to Mike at Resonant Arc for highlighting this masterpiece back in 2017. Best time travel story this side of Chrono Trigger

It gets an extra half-star just because being on a DS system inherently adds to the charm of a game. Otherwise, it gestures at some really interesting character beats, but there's so much fluff in between that it's hard to fully appreciate what it's doing. The Perfect Chronology stuff mostly feels tacked on too. And yet it's surprisingly engaging despite all that!

True Ending obtained, 283/283 Original World entries, 98/98 Possible History entries.

One of, if not the best JRPG on the 3DS. A unique time travel mechanic, really interesting story with a bunch of cool twists and turns, and a fantastic completion system that drives the player to see everything the game has to offer. This is also one of the more unique takes on turn based combat that I feel takes enough chances while sticking close enough to still have that same flow.

The story is honestly boring, underwhelming, and doesn't do much with its premise. The gameplay is fine I guess but it gets really stale after a while and doesn't really work for boss fights.

Este juego es muy bueno realmente estaban cocinando, aunque las mecanicas de combate son muy buenas no las aprovechan demasiado, i love the story, the voices are amazing

I was initially turned off by the unique combat mechanics but it didn’t take long to understand how it worked and become hooked. It has interesting characters and a great story, I really hope it gets a modern port/remake to become accessIble again.

A million times better of ds version. So much new features, QoL, new stories segments, new real ending, better battle system and so much more improvement, many to list all

Chrono Trigger but wayyyyyyy better

This is worth playing for Stocke alone because he is the type of man who turns what would normally be a 70 hour RPG into a 35 hour one
