Shinkansen 0 is a horror game developed by Chilla's Art, a brilliant horror game developer that I've been a fan of for a long time now.

Shinkansen 0 is another game following the anomaly loop subgenre popularised by games such as Exit 8. The game features you trying to reach the drivers car of a train but find yourself looping through the train cars. The advance you must pay attention to your surroundings and figure out whether or not an anomaly is present in the car and act accordingly.

I am personally a fan of this subgenre of game, but I understand that a lot of people are getting tired of them since many have been made since Exit 8 came out. I actually found this one a bit more uncomfortable than I did Exit 8, but even so this game isn't too scary or anything. It's a shame because I think Chilla's Art games are some of the creepiest indie horror games on the market, but this one just didn't hit the same for me personally.

Nevertheless, I do enjoy the deduction gameplay of figuring out whether or not something is wrong in the environment and if so what it is. Like Exit 8, some anomalies are glaringly obvious, such as a person sprinting towards you, while others are more subtle such as the other passengers smiling when they weren't before.

Overall, I think this game is still worth playing and I don't regret buying it, but it's far from my favourite Chilla's Art game.

This probably wasn't the best place to start with Chilla's Art especially coming from somebody who wasn't a big fan of The Exit 8 to begin with. This hidden anomaly loop subgenre seems to be just borrowing from the same tired formula that PT accidentally established half a decade ago now and it's kind of tedious. Too often I miss something and have to start all over, and it doesn't help that these game is full of graphical and auditory glitches anyway that has me questioning if the game is intentionally showing an anomaly or not. Despite all of my complaints, some of the scares genuinely were a little bit frightening here and I walked away from the experience having not hated my time with it overall. I hope that Chilla's Art wins me over more with their next release.

A worse version of exit 8. If you like the anomaly game style you'll probably like this. Or tolerate it. Or at least not hate it. Its definitely not as well put together. In fact there was an auditory bug that made me convinced an anomaly was present when in fact it was a simple bug. There's actually a story present, but this kind of game never needs one, so no extra points.
Slop game. At least its short enough to get it refunded if you aren't satisfied.

pretty good less horror but better gameplay some freaky jumpscares

FIller game to meet the at least 3 games a year quota

Powerful game, Chilla's Art knocked it out of the park with their take on the anomaly game

You see these type of “spot the difference” games dont work when sasuga unreal engine farts out visual and audio glitches onto my screen. “Has this room always been this bright? Has the rolling trolley always been silent?” Well these are going to be the most subtle anomalies you’ll come across, and they’re not even intentional. Also thanks for a ‘game over screen’ that is functionally identical to just failing the loop?
Idk, it’s not as bad as my review makes it out to be, but I cant type without sounding mad after playing an unreal engine game.
P.S. the unreal engine info’s source is that i made it the fuck up
