Not a hardcore fighting game head, but an overstuffed character roster is the first thing to turn me off of a fighting game (Smash aside). So much bloat and junk here, not least of which is found in the very phoned-in, repetitive, exploding dog bones fatalities. Truly pales in comparison to the detail-obsessed art direction of the first two games.
The peak of the classic mystique of Mortal Kombat. Aesthetically refined and with an unforgettable soundtrack by Dan Forden. The gameplay was expanded and although it still is a very hard game, it is much more entertaining than previous versions. The Midway debacle begins from here and Mortal Kombat will never be the same. God damn it 3D era.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 on SNES was a must-have back in the day! It added a bunch of cool ninjas, more brutal fatalities, and those chain combos were sick! But man, those SNES limitations show their age - graphics are blocky, the AI can be insanely cheap, and some of the new characters are duds. Still, if you're feeling nostalgic for classic Mortal Kombat or want to see how the series evolved, it's a fun (and bloody) piece of fighting game history.
Okay version of the arcade beat-em-up. The backgrounds have been reduced in quality so in many cases they resemble a glorified blurred mess, there's a lot of speech missing, animalities have been removed (sort of, you can still perform Kabal's XD) but what do you expect from a 16 bitter? They do an admirable job in any case.
