Thought this was a pretty good addition to the game. I liked the setting of a sort of dirty city with crime and morality being more up to interpretation rather than hard rules. Gameplay is just as solid as the base game. I do like that it felt more like an open-world type of thing rather than certain levels.

I won't lie, I was expecting something a little more New Donk City rather than Subway Surfers from this DLC, but I can give credit where credit is due. This DLC is pretty great.

Navigating the "open world" (heavy quotation marks) can be a little frustrating at points if you're like me and too stubborn to turn on the guide feature, but once Nyakuza Metro gets going, it's possibly the best chapter in this game.

Train hopping seems like such a no-brainer for a 3D platformer that I have to wonder why we haven't seen it more often in the genre. Nyakuza Metro slowly gets you used to riding these as method of getting around, and gradually adds more complexity and interesting ways of incorporating them into the level design before culminating in what is arguably one of the best acts in the entire game - testing all of the skills you've built navigating the Nyakuza Metro throughout the rest of the DLC. It's not particularly difficult, but it's very rewarding in a way that Alpine Skyline, the game's only other free-roaming chapter, never got close to achieving.

Nyakuza Metro didn't alleviate any of the frustration I hold toward A Hat in Time. There's no depth to anything going on, and in fact, despite being in a "darker setting" and constantly reminding you that your employer murders people on a regular basis, this DLC only leans into the whole "this is a cute game and nothing more" shtick even further (though, with a little bit of added style and neon aesthetic). But I would be lying if it wasn't a really great addition to what is already a really great game.

my favorite part of my favorite 3d platoformer. just so damn funn!
