Amazing experience with really fun gameplay and fantastic music.

The indie metroidvania that started it all, it's a pretty sweet game. I love the story and the atmosphere, but honestly, I think it's been outclassed by many other modern metroidvanias.

the main character is so revolting to me i dont even know why

While it has its merits above Hollow Knight (namely a more manageable length for a Metroidvania) the game suffers from some janky combat systems and inconsistent difficulty.

Very high difficulty, but even though I'm not big on retro, I liked the way it did it, as it seemed actually themed after specific eras rather than just using big dots to use big dots. And it mimicked NES-era glitches in a way that I felt was a clever tie-in to the story.
