I hate VN's but this was tolerable as hell because it wasn't a normal VN. I played it back when the hype for it was real I'm talking everyone was on this. School laptop, health class, with the gang. That shit was more funny than scary back then. good times good times.
Ok but I don't have anything to say about the game that hasn't been said. Yeah it was thought provoking and ground breaking, thanks team saliva or whatever they're called.

This game shows the true horror of psychology horror, but also human life as we know it. The way this game scares you is so exceptionally frightening that you will legit have goosebumps for the entirity of this, but also after finishing it.
I love everything here. From the character dynamics, to the monika storyline, the way they use assets of the game to change the experience, to the way it manipulates you to get attached and like the characters. It's actually genius.
The only problem I have with this game is that it feels a little short when you think about it as a game. But that's really it.
This is so great ong

Already a classic in visual novels. Although it's more of a classic viral phenomenon, creating large fandoms, delving into details, and developing conspiracy theories around itself.
Genius simplicity in flipping expectations from another school romance with archetypal anime culture images to a classic creepypasta with corresponding content.
The idea of interacting with files as both the game itself and the player is also brilliantly simple and in line with the spirit of creepypasta.
Despite all this, the story is genuinely touching. The soundtrack is essential. The final song, accompanying the main theme that has already become familiar, brings tears to the eyes.

Everyone made a big fuss out of this.
It's one of those games that, if it wasn't free, it wouldn't have had that much of an impact.
I mean, it wasn't novel, nor was it uncommon, problem was accesibility to the alternatives.
Still very good and very solid overall, a lovely letter to metahorror visual novels.

This game inflicted me with mega brain rot. Doki Doki Literature Club is a great visual novel that honestly surprised me at some parts despite knowing some of the plot elements due to spoilers. I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would, and I believe the best way to enjoy this game is to just not take it seriously at all. Also love the way they make you progress at the end of the game, it's so creative.
