Solid XCOM genre game, it just gets really stale around midgame. You have to prevent the spread of certain factions on the map otherwise they spread and get stronger, and honestly keeping up with it is a chore. Doing small missions that take like 20 minutes just to get like 4 resources doesn't feel good. Other than that, it's worth trying out.

Turn based combat in the style of XCOM. I'm a huge fan of this genre of game and loved the theme of Eldridge horror, however I think this let me paper over some issues the game has.

Maybe a comparison to XCOM is unfair and unreasonable, but Lamplighters League doesn't have the same excellent pacing. The mid-game starts to drag without any interesting escalation, the balance of risk vs reward isn't quite right.

Your PC's are named characters, which hinders the risk element compared to XCOM (where any character could on any mission). Because you know PC's are ultimately going to become available again I didn't care as much about my team. You can only do one mission per turn, regardless of how many operatives you have ready, which means you have no incentive change your team, You pick one play style have quite an easy time of keeping that roster going. Unlike XCOM, where you need to resource manage every operative, every decision is a risk with appropriate reward, every loss is devastating.

Good game with a strong theme but pales in comparison to its albeit excellent peers.

I was playing on Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming and the performance was shocking, a lot worse than other titles I have streamed. However, the game was enjoyable enough for me to continue despite this, which I can't say about all games.
