Virtual Hydlide doesn't fare as well as the original King's Field, but it's still a decent time. The frame rate is the elephant in the room, but if you can get past that, a fairly interesting and fun attempt at an early 3D JRPG lies underneath. Unfortunately, combat is unrewarding, since most enemies drop nothing and are easy to sprint past.

I think the ideal way to experience this game would be to share world seeds with a friend and race to the finish. For a more fleshed out KF-like experience on the Saturn, check out Baroque.
