I think this is the best sports game on the market today. WWE fan or not, this is an action-packed fighting sim with some of the best attention to detail out there. Not to mention, the creation suite is out of this world good compared to other AAA sports games. WWE and 2K know what they are doing here.

special ref matches my beloved i’ve missed you so much
think it’s time for a new combat engine 2k this fighting game-lite style, frankly, sucks && isn’t as fun to play as u think it is

My favorite wrestling game since Here Comes the Pain on PS2. Lots to dig into, a variety of modes to play, and a lot of wrestlers to mess around with. Plus, the number of ways you can create wrestlers, shows, title belts and more is absurd.

Definitely has its issues. MyFaction is grindy and pointless, MyRise is decent and Showcase mode is a bit of a bore, but I can see myself coming back to mess around with community creations, GM and Universe Mode again and again.

Well, WWE 2K24 was one of my must-have games this year considering I've been watching much more wrestling, between WWE and AEW, when I have a bit of extra time between games. I was really eager to get back into wrestling games after spending a few years away from them and hearing that 2K22 changed a lot of disastrous things the franchise had since 2K16. Overall, I'm really not impressed by 2K24, but there's plenty of fun to be had with the game if you're looking for the newest, most refined, large-roster game. I'll break down each mode 2K24 has, from best to worst.

Best mode easily goes to the "Play" mode between you and your friends, along with community creations. This is really carrying my three-star rating a bunch. The roster this year features almost 200 roster characters, including upcoming DLC for CM Punk, Pat McAfee, and a whole bunch of other WWE legends and people who you wouldn't normally see as DLC. Community creations will also allow you to pick up even more characters to add to your arsenal, if your favorite wrestler is with another company or didn't agree to their likeness being in the game, community creations has you covered!

In addition to how good "Play" mode is, there are plenty of new match types this year as advertised. The casket and ambulance matches return, along with the comedically good Special Guest Referee mode. There's a lot to enjoy here on just beating up on your CPUs or friends, and if I had a night with some people coming over, 2K24 might easily be the game of choice over the traditional sports games due to the sheer amount of fun and variability in matches.

Play mode out of the way, here's where things get a bit more spotty.

"Showcase" mode: Recent games have had a showcase where you live out a legendary wrestler's most famous matches. I did try this on 2K23 for PC, and enjoyed the spotlight and various matches of John Cena, where you play as his opponents to dethrone John and relive his few losses over the years. This year's Showcase features more matches than ever in "40 Years of Wrestlemania mode". I had so much fun with the initial three or so matches from Wrestlemania 1 & 3, but then you start to realize the repetition of this mode, and things will drag on and on as you work your way through another 25 or so matches that treat everything as a tutorial.

Basically, the game puts you in the match and asks you to do specific moves, often telling you how with hints, then cutting to real-life footage of the match. It's fun on how seamless some moments transition to real life, but often times, and to major annoyance, all of the cool moments of the match happen while you're rewatching the fight. You'd think you performing a massive jaw-dropping splash as Shawn Michaels would be fun, until you just...watch him do it to Razor Ramon. Like you could have just watched it on YouTube or on the WWE Network.

In essence, I like what this mode goes for but it is very, very bland after a few matches, and will lose its fun fastest. You won't also be returning to this mode at all after it's completed.

In the meh category of 2K24 are MyGM and MyRise. I'll speak briefly on MyGM - it's a fun management game but nearly impossible on higher difficulties, along with how repetitive it gets. I heard older games have management situations that are new almost every time you enter the mode, yet within one season of MyGM, my Superstars were asking for the same shit every time without fail. "Pair me with this person! Take me out for a week!" It was pretty bland, and again, I don't think too many people buy these games just for the management side of things alone.

MyRise is...bleck. Again, it was a mode that captured my interest for about an hour, but when you see where it's going, it's a lot bleaker and more boring. In these modes, you create a wrestler for a story to run through your character. There is a male and female version, both of which don't have any shining characteristics. The dialogue is very cringy, the combat is pretty easy all the way through, the side missions really don't "add" much to your characters outside of the occasional unlock and upgrade points...and I'd say if you watch all the cutscenes and side missions, it's almost 10 hours per story. For a "main story", this is easily quite pathetic and your character doesn't have a lot of choice on how they choose to act outside of maybe 2-3 parts of the story. Your superstar is very much how the game projects them to be, moreso than making your character yourself.

Lastly, and what would easily be a half-star if it was its own mode - MyFaction. Not dissimilar to Madden's Ultimate Team or whatever 2K calls it in NBA, it's a game mode meant to bring in whales to buy cards of their favorite Superstars with real life cash. I enjoyed the various modes and ways to play, from towers to almost a roguelite mode in Faction Wars, the rewards were always so paltry and bare that the game was begging me to whale and buy the cards of who I liked rather than playing the mode a second longer. In wrestling terms, this mode would earn negative stars from myself.

Overall, just a very meh game that really would only be worth it as a wrestling fan or someone who wants something to play with their friends. I expect my love of wrestling to continue, but I will likely be waiting for a sale of 2K25, no matter what "returns" from older, better games.

I'm not a big pro wrestling guy, but my good buddy Jeremy is. We were playing exhibitions in local multiplayer. It was a good time, but some features that were prominent in past entries (I used to play a lot of the smackdown games on ps2) were not present or at least, we weren't able to figure out how to do them. Had a lot of fun though.

It's pretty alright overall. Not a masterpiece or anything; but better than 95% of the 2K games, that's for sure.

The fucking loading screens though, especially in MyRise. They're so many and take so long.

A slightly better game than 2K23 was. When it comes to the storylines I much preferred last years mens storyline The Lock over Undisputed but I preferred this years womens storyline Unleashed over last years The Legacy
