What started out as an awesome turn based adventure slowly turned sour as the novelty wore off. The combat was good - figuring out enemy patterns with a dodge mechanic and there was a good variety of enemies.

The music was also really catchy and the world design was really colourful with a fee different style areas to explore. The story was okay - followed the usual Mario story arch but did have a few twists and introduced new villains.

That being said - I spent the majority of my time trying to navigate the world and with only very vague clues on what to do next. I found myself getting lost and running around in circles.

My main gripe with the game was the abilities you use to navigate the world, having to switch constantly really made the game feel slow and sluggish - not to mention the required mini-games sometimes needed zero error to pass.

Well worth a play if you get the chance, but not a game I’d go back to.

i think this was my first rpg, at age 12. ohh austinpowers you were so young

A good game nearly ruined by a frustrating ending.

With Mario & Luigi games, you can always count on:
- a fun, immersive story with great and humoristic writing
- simple, but fun gameplay and some fun puzzles in the overworld
- Satisfying combat
- Great characters with good backstories

And all of this fit onto a simple GBA game. Do overworld enemies sometimes get tiring? Maybe, but there's enough variety to keep you engaged. Amazing title.

An unexpectedly incredible first entry for a Mario RPG series.
Who would have thought that this would start one of the longest characters arcs in all the story of Nintendo, while creating one of the most iconic villains in all gaming?

Of course I'm talking about Rookie. Who did you think it was otherwise?

Playing this on your GameBoy while your mom and sisters shop in the mall was unmatched

Super Mario RPG is one of my favorite games of all time so another Mario RPG series sounds amazing. The Mario & Luigi series is famous for being able to control both brothers; the gameplay is fantastic and on par if not better than Mario RPG. The graphics and music are wonderful and the humor adds a lot of charm. I think the villain is a little weak and the game's pacing is quite poor near the end. I also don't like how slowly you level up and as the first entry in the series, the combat system is far from perfect. Despite those flaws, this is still a great game and a wonderful start to the Mario & Luigi series.

SuperStar saga is an awesome rpg. There’s no period where you have to grind and there’s no bs it gets straight to the good stuff, including fun enemies and an engaging turn based battle system where you are in control even when it’s the enemies turn. The character writing is also pretty good for a Mario game and while simple, the story is still a lot of fun to go through. Definitely one of the GBAs best games

AlphaDream showed how to make a Near-Perfect Mario RPG that doesn't draw itself out and is just beat after beat of content, while also managing to innovate on the JRPG formula as a whole. Expanding on Mario's world and universe with memorable characters, locations and a funny story that doesn't take itself too seriously. This game is entirely meat, no fat on these bones. Highly recommended, it is a masterpiece.

Princess Peach, a grown ass woman, cannot stay still for five seconds. Stupid bitch.

Never have I felt anything for jellyfish in my life

Fantastic first entry in the series. The characterization of these characters is a delight to see, and the gameplay and battles are very fun. No real critiques, but I do think the story and gameplay is often better in most of the following entries.

I absolutely adore this game. Superstar Saga blew my mind as a kid and held up incredibly well when I re-visited it as an adult.

The sprite animation is expressive and charming, the story is an amusingly goofy romp, and the gameplay systems make for an accessible RPG with room for mastery. The flashy Bros. moves challenge you to work on timing button combos, with advanced versions coming along mid-game. Trying to keep up with increasingly tricky enemy counters/dodges keeps enemies interesting all throughout the game. The Beanbean Kingdom feels like a familiar yet distinct spin on the Mario setting, appropriate for a neighbor to the Mushroom Kingdom. There are a ton of optional goodies, minigames, sidequests, and so on. Naturally the music is great as well.

Obviously my feelings are flavored by the nostalgia factor, but for me it is quite simply one of the best Mario games, and one of my favorite games overall.

I know I'm biased because I grew up with this game, but I think this is the best game ever lol
It's so good it's insane. I'm replaying it now and I'm blown away by how tightly designed it is, and how creative it is.
I'm so glad that this is the game I was playing when I was young.

fuck yeah Mario and Luigi Mario! the mario bros.

Such a fun and comical Mario adventure, the Bros Moves being based around the moves you perform on the field are so creative. But goddamn once you get the Mush Badge this game snaps in half. A fun time that I wish was balanced a bit better.

A really FUN GAME. Unfortunate that I couldn't beat the FINAL BOSS and then lost my current save then.

Great introduction to the idea of mario&luigi as a rpg

Some of the best characterization for these two. I like fawful and this is so much fun to play.

peak de inicio a fin, quiero ser mario y que mi hermana se transforme en luigi en la vida real.

when the four star beans scattered i left this game for like ten years before picking it up again

ayyy it’s the plumber brothers.. i don’t remember much of this game tbh

Historia infantil, mas bem extrovertida, mecânica bem desafiadora e o ultimo boss é realmente difícil.
As mecânicas de interação com o Mario e Luigi são muito engraçadas, mas o jogo é bem cansativo em questão de história.

Really fun game that's enjoyable especially for the JRPGS non-fans. The combat mechanics need you to focus on timing when pressing buttons for attacking, instead of some complex strategies. The gameplay is dynamic, while the story and the characters are quirky and the dialogues are often humourus.

Best mario & luigi game no question. Actually wait dream team is really good.
Second best mario & luigi game no question.

really fun and interesting start to the mario & luigi franchise. i love exploring the bean bean kingdom and the wacky story of this game, really solid start to one of my favorite franchises.

A hilarious little game that harkens back to the 90's era of non-Square Enix RPG's with buckets of charm and that classic Nintendo spark. However, it lacks the focus of a game that you can get your teeth into after around 10-15 hours.

I started this game and absolutely loved it from the get-go. The style and level of polish is immediately apparent and it's sense of child-like humour is utterly charming and really makes the player smile.

The issues arrive a few hours in though. It's actual direction is lacking and the tutorial segments crop up far too often and are easily forgettable. If you take a few days off the game, you will likely forget what you were doing, where you were going and what the hell is going on. You can chalk this up to player error but to me, it needs a little something to help focus the story.

There's a brilliant amount of side content here which was surprising. It's more than just 'babys first RPG' which many of you will be glad to hear. It also has an absolutely stellar sound track which should really surprise no-one.

Despite the many many good points to the game, I am sad to announce that I couldn't quite see it through to the end. I took too long of a break from it and the desire to continue wasn't there.

This hasn't put me off the series though, far from it. From what I hear, the series actually improves hugely with it's next couple of entries so I will absolutely be checking them out soon!
