Necromunda: Hired Gun is a game that knows what it wants to be for better or for worse. It is a romp through the most daunting and towering areas of 40k's Underhives while humming to the tune of the most iconic weapons from the series. It is definitely one of the better 40k FPS games, on par with Darktide, and much much better than Fire Warrior. To compare it to developer StreumOn's other title, it feels like a more condensed and easier version of EYE: DC to appeal to a broader audience while still having the crazy combat encounters of that game. Yet it starts and stops only at the power fantasy aspect of Warhammer, rather than using this game to expand on lore or tell an interesting story. The most iconic 40k games like Space Marine were so shattering to the mythos of the series, that it changed the way a lot of people looked at it. Hired Gun doesn't much care for story presentation as much as it does gore and loot, as the cutscenes are exposition dumps, and poorly animated ones at that. Yet that doesn't matter, as bereft of it's story, I still found a short and sweet 6 hour long ARPG with satisfying guns and wild powers.
