Much like the previous Sims games, The Sims 4 is a solid character/home building life simulation game. So if you enjoy that, it's great.
Though personally; felt the game to be very messy & rather unsure of itself.
In-game encouragement of purchasing DLC is also a turn off.
The forced internet connection requirements is also absurd.
Modding would improve many of the limitations of the game, though the developers overbearing beliefs regarding some mods is undesirable, & can put your accounts at risk of termination for having the audacity to do what you wish with your own private installation of the game.

Unlike The Sims 2 and The Sims 3, something about the game feels soulless and empty. Expansion Packs, Game Packs, etc. are incredibly limited in content compared to the previous two games and I always feel like I'm getting ripped off.
If we can have the fun social, item, etc. interactions of TS2 and TS3; the open world, story progression, and customizability of TS3; and the easy and flexible build mode and compatibility with weaker computers of TS4, that would be my perfect Sims game.

The base game just doesn't have much content at all. I haven't played any of the other Sims games (yet) but they all just look so much more appealing.
There is a lot more content in the Sims 4 but it's all through DLCs and microtransactions which are all way too overpriced for what they offer. Some packs are as expensive as full AAA titles and you only unlock horses or something.
Good game if you have a bottomless wallet I guess.
At least it gave us Jim Pickens.
