A little underwhelming for its price, on multiple fronts, with most of the problems being tied to a lack of polish. The game is very short, and there is almost no variety in how to approach combat. The lack of interesting enemies is one thing, but worse is the absurdly simplistic level design, which encourages zero strategic thinking and planning. Every encounter plays out exactly the same, and the bosses, with one notable exception, are total pushovers. The stuff in between combat encounters is largely formulaic and uninteresting. The characters and story are both fine, but the game is too short to fit any deeper themes into its script, and the worldbuilding isn't very inspired. On the mechanical side meanwhile, the upgrade system allows for some fun experimentation, but its implementation as based on random drops kill anything resembling balance and consistency. The only thing the game scores high on is its style - it has some excellent character designs and pleasant vistas to look at, and the music isn't half bad either. I just wish it had more depth and nuance in the thematic and mechanical departments, it didn't leave a very strong impression as is.
