I have no idea if I'll finish this - it feels like the kind of game that's less about the story and more about "being a dungeon crawler," which isn't a bad thing, but it really does just drop you into a scenario and say "here's some quests to complete, do more quests to make the world good, here's a bunch of randomized party members to help you survive those quests."

The thing with W:ToFL is that the atmosphere is just so good. I specifically prioritized it because of my mutual MoonlightFaust on Tumblr posting an aesthetic gif of the town's chapel, and a few screenshots of the character designs that sold me immediately on the aesthetic. It's got an undeniable style, which is really emphasized by Katsuya Terada's illustrations.

On top of the gorgeous snow and fog and NPC art, the "stock dungeon crawler" stuff actually holds its weight when it comes to combat, with a really slick "party chemistry" system that allows new combo attacks as the party grows more comfortable with each other. The trade-off is that the party doesn't actually get much development past their alignment, which only matters because it impacts how much they trust you based on (from my understanding) what your character's alignment is and how you decide to roleplay that (attacking innocent monsters or responding to NPC dialogue in edgy ways etc). The team moves are really interesting, I love having a "rush attack" to just demolish a large group of low-level monsters, and having a block attack so ranged characters can counter-attack if monsters attack a specific party member, so you can guard a low-HP mate without automatically losing the fight because you don't have the resources to tank a monster without leaving the party vulnerable.
Even if I don't BEAT the game in whatever form it's conveying qualifies a "win state," I'm interested to see which other tag-teams are available at higher levels, and how encounters look further into the dungeon. So far, it doesn't have a ton going for it if you're not already sold on dungeon crawlers like me, but if you're looking for a more approachable turn-based DC; it's really solid and at least has a unique vision and good mechanics if not an engaging narrative. I can easily see it being a 4-star if I stick with it, but unless it pulls some wild tricks I don't think it'll break that ceiling.
