Games like Fatal Fury had the distinction of coming out at the same time as Street Fighter II and the development pedigree to be considered true competitors. Fighter's History was much more clearly developed after Street Fighter II remapped the fighting game landscape and it very much shows. It was so similar that Capcom actually sued Data East over this one (and lost) which should be pretty apparent after looking at some of the characters (Ray vs. Ryu, Chun-Li's toned legs vs. Yungmie's gams, etc.).

The game plays light a clunkier version of SF II as well, and though it's fast enough, the jumps always felt unnatural in this one. The weak spot system is a commendable idea, but since it was incorporated into an otherwise mediocre fighter, it certainly wasn't interesting enough on its own to carry the game.
