The game just OOZES that nineties CRUNCH that you can only find on the PSX. The teal metal, the crunchy sound of the shotgun, even the disks have a nice texture on them. This game's big gimmick is the zapping system, stuff you do in one campaign affects the other, like special weapon pickups and even a certain optional puzzle can only be completed by the combined efforts of 2 playthroughs. And the big thing that this game has ov3r it's remake, Mr. X. A player in 1998 would have no idea who that is so when he shows and wrecks your shit in the second playthrough where you think you know everything, it must've blown their minds encountering him the first time. I know it did for me. Anyway this game is fire, Claire A Leon B all day.
It's Resident Evil 1 but improved in maybe every way, I loved playing this game so much I made sure to play both characters' routes! I played through Claire A/Leon B because I've already played Leon A through the remake, I'm surprised and very pleased at how different the original game is from the remake, that's why I wanted to go back to these older titles in the first place. Absolutely give this a shot, even more than the first game, I feel this is as comfortable of an introduction to the series as RE1!
Same thing as the regular PS1 release, but with analog stick support and Extreme Battle mode.
Analog stick support is kinda lame, because it just translates your stick movement to digital and doesn't let you adjust the speed with it.
Extreme battle is a lot of fun and really challenging on LV 3. You start in the lab and head to the precinct to do an objective there - basically the opposite direction from the original game. Unlike The 4th Survivor and Saturn Battle Mode, this one is less of a mini game and closer to actual Resident Evil gameplay, where you need to search the environment, look for supplies and specific quest items. Also you can save there. Cool way to create more gameplay out of the same assets.
