As of 2024, this is still the only Last Bible game to be officially released in English. As far as I understand it the Last Bible spin-offs were supposed to be a more child friendly spin-off to the mainline Megami Tensei games, which I guess makes this a proto-Pokemon.

The gameplay follows the same conventions that would become the staple of Megami Tensei series and its various spinoffs, namely that you can recruit monsters by talking to them during combat, and fuse them into different monsters to fight alongside you. While this does add a unique layer to the combat, the rest of the game plays like a very tedious JRPG of the time similar to something like early Dragon Quest games and story basically just exists in service of setting up the gameplay loop.

A Megaten game on the Gameboy Color sounded good in theory.
Unfortunately, this one is just too grindy for me. Plus the demon negotiation sucks... and even when you recruit demons, they don't level up. It's hard to justify their use when they die so often and reviving them is expensive.
