Reading about this game in a magazine back in the day felt so surreal, Okami looked so fucking cool and its gimmick description made me :o I wanted to brushy brush right away, that being said my now jaded self hates Issun with the force of a thousand suns and thinks the game's little more than a theme park but one can't deny the charm.
Oh my goodness. I just love this game, I don't know what to say.
My sister's friend gave this to her, and then it was given to me. To say I was addicted is an understatement. Ugh, gorgeous. I love the traditional Japanese art style. It makes the game feel timeless in a sense. I've also always been a fan of Yokai, so being able to fight (and I believe you can read about each one) was honestly so amazing to me. Let's not forget the music, which uses traditional Japanese instruments in many of its soundtracks. I just love it so much. The bosses, characters, the land, the adventures, everything was just so MuAH! I would absolutely love to play a sequel. I haven't played Okamiden, but I know that it messes some of the timelines up, from what I heard at least. I'd like a sequel closer to the original story, but I doubt we'll be seeing one in a long time. And despite my wishes, I do thing this Okami stands as an amazing game alone.
With this version, the game feels a little blurry, but it is an older title, and I don't mind the blurry look.
Anyway, I have Okami HD listed as my favorite, but I played this version first, so I wanted to write about this one instead of Okami HD.
But...yeah! There's too much to say and it'll all become a jumbled mess. I'll leave with this. Please, if you can, play it!! I highly suggest it. It's such a wonderful game. It takes around 30 hours to beat, but if you wanna try and collect and find everything, it may take more. For me, it was an extra 30 hours. I bought Okami HD for only 20 dollars. Sometimes it even goes on sale. If you're into Japanese mythology, then this game may be for you!!

The best "Zelda" game ever made - a controversial statement to be sure, but one I believe in earnest to be true. And while that may sound like I'm throwing shade, there isn't much shame in that... as there aren't many games in general that come close to this masterpiece.
Okami is a game of visual splendor - filled with gorgeous colors and inspiring, beautiful music. It will transport you to one of the most fascinating and unique worlds in all of gaming. Overflowing with Japanese mythology and culture, once you reach the end of the game, and the credits are rolling, you'll feel as if you underwent a religious experience.
And you better strap yourself in too, because this is one epic adventure, boasting a runtime of close to 50 hours! For a non-RPG, I was shocked more than once when the game kept going, even when I thought it was starting to wrap up... I never wanted this incredible journey to end!
If someone argues that video games cannot be art (which has always been a ridiculous argument), point them to this game and its wonderful presentation and storyline.
There are so many incredible games on the PlayStation 2...but it is hard for me not to put Okami in the #1 spot on that list. If this was your favorite game of all time, you would have no argument from me. It is that special.

This game is absolutely amazing. It is one of the best Zelda games ever, and it's not even a part of the series. I love how complete the experience is. It feels like three games put into one. I love the different abilities in the game and how they are used in it. Then, of course, the art style is astounding and immediately makes it stand out. It is awesome and makes it an even better experience. This is also the best version due to the motion controls making it feel like you're actually painting.
"Masterpiece" is a word thrown around a lot these days in regard to things that made a lasting or maybe-not-so-lasting impression on people, but I truly believe Okami deserves that title.
It's hard to summarise Okami in a way that paints just how great of a game it is (no pun intended).
It manages to provide a 50+ hour experience while giving the player new challenges and things to discover constantly, I still find and learn new things in the game many years later.
It's jam packed with things to do, including a really long story (You beat what you think might be the final boss and you're only 1/3 through the story) with a tongue-in-cheek script, optional arena-type battles to test your mettle, even collectibles like the Stray Beads and monster checklists.
There's even multiple fishing mini games, racing minigames and lots of other stuff, I easily put in over 100+ hours on my first playthrough.
Accompanying it is a beautiful, melodious soundtrack and unique sumi-e, watercolour-esque artstyle that stood the test of time.
The gist is that the game looks like a painting, and even the small things like the animations and side quests were painstakingly crafted with love and attention to detail.
And with the HD releases, it looks and feels better to play than ever.
There is just so many things that it does right with all its aspects it's given as a video game medium.
I'm really glad Okami is getting the love it deserves even long after Clover Studio dissipated.
It really is a game (and a literal piece of art) unlike any other.
