Scarlet has a lot of performance issues and the world looks awful graphically. Excusing that, the main story progression is probably my favourite of any 3d Pokémon game! I went straight from point A to point B and was very underlevelled during my playthrough, which actually added much appreciated challenge! The music in the game goes hard, and the story is actually compelling for the first time in a while. The new mons are interesting and so is the main cast. There is practically no postgame unfortunately, and no, DLC does not count.

I can't fault anyone who doesn't have the patience or the energy to play a broken game. Much less an expensive one.
I do understand that, but it's increasingly hard for me to engage with videogames by that kind of perspective. If it runs at 10fps I'll just adjust to it, if it's buggy I hope it's funny, if it's ugly then, well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Most good, interesting and ambitious ideas overshadow bad technical aspects for me and thankfully Pokémon Scarlet is good, interesting and ambitious.
I had so much fun that I can almost consider it the best in the franchise. An ode to broken games with plenty of soul.

Scarlet/Violet is a very middling game. The core gameplay is fun, the classic Pokemon formula has been changed up enough to make it very enjoyable, especially thanks to the improvements Legends: Arceus had already introduced before. I really enjoy the open world, and no longer being limited to open zones like in Arceus. But the game has a huge array of issues, from the mobile-game-level performance and graphics, to the lack of level scaling. In the end, I prefer Legends: Arceus. I recognize that this game had a lot of potential, but it didn't really live up to it. Nonetheless, it was a mostly enjoyable experience, and I'm excited to see what the future of this series has to offer.
The worst Pokemon game ever made. Pokemon is my favorite franchise, and it makes me really sad to see this game. As of right now, it is the only Pokemon game I haven't finished, because I actually can't get through this one. I really hope the next game is better, and they actually take their time to make it instead of pumping a new game out every single year.
i played this game way after release, emulated, so i didn't really have technical issues too often. the game was a near steady 4k 30fps, so I can't speak to how the game launched. but oh my god, this game was so fun. the most fun pokemon experience i've since x and y (haven't played arceus yet) i love the mix of classic pokemon progression with a more open world. area zero was really cool and i liked seeing the story take some weird turns that i wasn't expecting. but please add voice acting, especially if you're gonna animate the scenes like there is. overall, a little janky, but i didn't have many issues that people dealt with on launch. this game was honestly such a joy, i was just happy to play a pokemon game.
Although the graphic bugs appear very often, the game itself is a very good game. I've played Pokémon since Crystal edition and this is one my favorites along with Crystal and Emerald. It's fun to play, bring new features and has a lot of things to do. When completed, the shiny hunt is funnier than ever.
I find this game to be extremely difficult to rank. The core gameplay loop is handled so well and the final section of the game is among the best writing the series has had, but it's held back by what is aside from that final section a bland story with (mostly) bland characters, towns acting as nothing more than set pieces, ugly graphics, poor level balancing/scaling, and some QoL step-backs from Legends: Arceus. And that's not to mention the elephant in the room, the worst offender of them all: the performance. Oh my god it's so bad. Every time I go back to this game and boot it up I just internally go "UGH!". This game is so paradoxically fun and unfun at the same time. This could have been one of the best Pokémon games were it given the development time it deserved.
