A return to form for the Syberia series after the (apparent) disaster of the Kickstarter-funded third entry. There is still plenty of jank involved with The World Before, but this is clearly a labour of love, and the more you play it the more you can tell a lot of care and conviction went into it. It is a startlingly beautiful game at times, and while the character models are nothing to write home about, the various locales that Kate Walker visits on her travels are crammed with details and picturesque flair. Add in a heartfelt story, a subdued but gorgeous musical score and some inventive clockwork puzzles, and you've got yourself a winner.

Shame about the monkey man though. He feels very out of place in all of this.
