So the only reason I played this game today was because a friend was asking me why this game was $90 nowadays. I told them maybe I should play it and see if it's any good. Didn't really have any knowledge on this game besides Atlus published it but once again I'm surprised I enjoyed a game in this series.

This is a remake of the original Arcade game which scared me because if you didn't know, I hate the original game. I didn't like it in the Arcades, I didn't like it on the Famicom, and I especially hated the unlicensed Genesis version. But this one was made by the team who worked on the Famicom Kunio games. They actually did a good job here.

This game not only adds more stages and moves from future titles but it actually fixed the awful slowdown. It feels so nice to actually play this and enjoy myself. Sure they didn't fix some stuff like the elbow smash being OP but with other moves being fun to use it doesn't really annoy me as much. If there was one gripe I had with attacks is it seems if you mash the button it'll do the attack as many times as you pressed it leading to unintentional whiffs.

This really is the best version of the game though with some faults like sadly the music is not very good due to it being on the GBA and this also means playing in 2 player is harder to setup. I would love to see this be done on a console but I doubt that would ever happen nowadays. There's even a new survival mode where you take down as many enemies as you can, I think it goes as high as 137.

If you've never played this game you might need to give the game a try if you ever enjoyed the series. It was a pleasant surprise. This is a pretty high contender for being the best though the only other game I've enjoyed in the series was II on the Famicom so make that what you will. Certainly one of the lesser known GBA games that's worth a look.
