Fighting games are games I usually don't try to play too much of just because I'm not too good at them and some of them can be so unfun that they hurt the experience for me. I'm sure part of the issue is I'm a loser with no friends that can play these games with but yet I still try to play these games from time to time. Part of it is because I sometimes see a cast of characters that intrigue me.

Now Variable Geo is a series I don't really know much of at all. It seems to have started on the PC 98 and then this got a more improved port on the PC Engine, PS1, and Saturn. I decided to play the PC Engine one today.

To cut it simple, this is basically Sexy Girls Street Fighter 2. It's got a lot of similar moves from those games and it doesn't really innovate much from the genre to help it stick out in terms of gameplay. Honestly it doesn't bother me too much as at least not everything is the same and the girls are not the same personalities as the World Warriors.

Another cool thing is the fact this game takes a page out of SNK's book and tries to go for a big story having it's own story mode. Sadly I can't say what happened because it's in Japanese but I do like the effort put into it. I do wish it had music because most of the time it's just voices. There's also some fanservice if you're into that. I won't judge.

I will say the AI at least on the default difficulty aren't too smart but they also sometimes are a little too spammy. The final boss though is awful, it's so hard to even get hits in, probably the only low point of the game for me. I do wish you weren't forced to use Yuka the whole story mode so I mained her for this game. At least she's fun to use.

The music is really good considering it is a CD game. I could listen to this music all day. There was one theme that had lyrics and it was really catchy and I love it. The graphics don't look too bad for the system either. They did a good job.

This game isn't going to impress anyone nowadays but it's a neat alternative to Street Fighter 2. I had a fun time and it helped it wasn't too challenging. Maybe someday I'll check more of this series out or even play the PS1 version. Give it a try if it interests you. You might enjoy it.
