I didn't know it was based on a podcast tho, so thanks for that. That would explain the weird humor and constant references to retro games. Still, I prefer games that take inspiration rather than just make references, you know?

It's completely understandable that you prefer other games of the same genre. I think 99Vidas was developed to cater to their podcast audience and to serve as an introduction to beat 'em up games, being quite simple.
For example, my 7-year-old nephew preferred this game over Streets of Rage 4.

@LeonardoMF93 I agree, It's a product for the fans rather than the general public. I'm not sure about the "introduction" part, but that's a whole different discussion to have.
