These very quickly have become among my favorite co-op experiences, they're a little crusty in areas but you get into a rhythm with it (Judgement is weird but I like it). Gears 2 and 3 are still locked to 360 hell, but are backcompat with Xbox One (and has enhancements for Xbox One X/Series X|S; runs at 4k60 over there!)
The performance of splitscreen co-op on a One S is all over the place in 1, 2 is mostly smooth but the final act chugs, and 3 is very smooth until the final act as well where it has the worst performance across the 4 I've played lol.
Afaik performance is mostly fine in singleplayer/1 per console (online/lan co-op), but they very obviously optimized around aggressive off-camera culling (I could faintly see stuff unrender at the edge of my screen in Judgement in particular lol)
