Bioshock Infinite really wants to be another game with Something To Say like the original, but the message just ends up being at best muddled and at worst pretty problematic. There are some cool ideas during development, but most were either scrapped or whittled down to a few scripted sequences.

That being said, I do not think this is a bad game overall. The plot does a good job of stringing you along moment to moment with intrigue, and it isn't until you step back that the cracks start to show. The gameplay is satisfying, but can't paper over the plot issues that are just too hard to ignore because of how badly the game wants you to take it seriously. What we're left with is a fun game to play, but one that exists in the shadow of looming missed opportunities and poor messaging.
