It is an immense step-up in my opinion compared to OoT. While ocarina did set up the mechanics, the engine, and a lot of the assets, Majora makes great use of it with amazing recycling. It sounds like a fallout 3 to New Vegas comparison.

It also addresses most of the issues with ocarina, the padding is noticeably less frequent - although still existing - and the time of day mechanic is much more prevalent and useful here. Gameplay is improved compared to child link in oot, and other things that I won't bother to list.

There is a fatigue by the time you reach the third dungeon, and the fourth was somewhat of a bore. The bosses aren't memorable with a lot of gimmicky battles, puzzle logic is better than ocarina but still odd at times, and some nitpicks or complaints here and there.

But in the end this IS the OG Zelda game you wanna play. Great attention to detail, improved narrative, and a very fulfilling experience.
