The first "souls-like" game, made with a lower budget than the real thing and a lot more straightforward in terms of progression and storytelling.
It's even slower too, unless you use AGI weapons in which case you can pull off muti-hit combos and crits. I personally enjoyed that aspect because it's rather hard to make a thief build in the Dark Souls series, but here you can even turn invisible with the green magic school. Awesome.
Another important difference is that you can spend your experience and restore your health without respawning the enemies in the area so it's a lot easier if you are patient. Alternatively, you can forgo resting in exchange for a higher experience multiplier so there's a nice risk/reward system present here.
However, unfortunately the Steam version of the game has Denuvo and suffers from some technical issues. I personally experienced some framerate dips here and there despite meeting the recommended specs.
Ultimately, I'd recommend Lord of the Fallen to people who have already exhausted the Dark Souls series and are looking for something similar, and don't mind the lower budget. Further "soul-likes" from this developer (like The Surge) are more polished, in case you'd like to try them instead.
