Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a first person shooter set in the times of the Wild West where the player takes on the role of bounty hunter in a quest for vengeance. The writing doesn't take itself very seriously and the way the story is presented is very original. Even thought the plot is fictitious, many historical figures from the time period make an appearance, the first level, as an example, involves Billy the Kid.
Combat is generally fast paced, levels are almost completely lineal and the player has access to a skill tree of sorts with skills such as bullet time. Killing enemies in quick succession enables combos too so all in all Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is very arcadey. There's also a literal arcade mode with leaderboards and such, but I digress.
The experience is also elevated by some very appealing graphics, good sound design and simply excellent voice acting.
My only real complain about the gameplay are the duels, they clearly were designed with controller vibration in mind and aren't really tense either because they are completely deterministic as far as I can tell.
Overall, I would say Call of Juarez: Gunslinger is a short, solid shooter that's a lot of fun to play. It doesn't reinvent the wheel gameplay-wise, but it doesn't need to in order to be an enjoyable experience. Not to mention there's a tragic lack of Wild West themed video games so that's another point in its favor as far as I'm concerned.
