A very creative shooter set in the Oddworld universe, although it doesn't require any prior knowledge about the series in order to enjoy. Just know that these games contain anti-consumerist themes, and that they would be extremely brutal if the characters weren't cartoony aliens.
As for the gameplay, I think the "living ammo" mechanic is very original and it's clever in the sense that it plays nicely into the game's message against unconstrained industrial development, why use bullets when you can enlist the aid of small animals instead? I only wish that maybe the least conventional critters had more use compared to the hornet and pillbug.
However, with so many new ideas you can tell that the developers didn't have a lot of trust in the players because there's an excess of tutorials in my opinion and some parts of the game seem rushed, especially towards the end.
Nevertheless, I think Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath is a truly special game and more than just a gimmicky shooter.
