Shrouded in Sanity is a lot more ambitious than what initial appearances might suggest, although I personally felt that mechanics such as parrying are kind of redundant when kiting is so effective.
However, I must admit I'm biased because I really like how authentic the game feels. I believe that it takes a lot of confidence to make a game with white haired, katana wielding, wizard, gunslinger knights without making dumb ironic jokes at one's expense.
I wouldn't know exactly whom to recommend this game to, but I certainly enjoyed it myself and I'll probably play the rest of the series in the future.
