Man. This is up there. Oh the resident evil level design tweaked to have modern sensibilities. Qol with the map and crafting ammo. There's a fantastic blend of old with new. It feels suitably retro and clever with great control and graphics makes it a truly tense puzzler/light action game. Combat is weak and basic but there is a high-tension and satisfying engagement to it all. Shooting a knee or a head to stun and run feel exhilarating. Just as much when it comes to parking your shotgun point blank as it can be right before you get grabbed so you can pop zombies head open and watch as the gore model delights and disgusts you as you shake the body of your fallen enemy of yourself. This end of re instead of the action side of things like 4-6, where the big appeal is exploration planning your route and strategically spending resources when and where you feel like it bests suits you with the addition of panic inducing decisions of wasting a knife or grenda to get an enemy of you or running a complete different path to get me X off you. Btw is the best implementation of a stalker character in any game. Sound design of his steps make the fear near and strong. Honestly there's a heap to enjoy about this game. Nearly all original post game content is intact with fun bonuses to be found and a great deal of polish make this a must damn play. It gets shy of a 5 as it's paced really well only has like maybe an hour of stink sewers in the middle that are admittingly a little lame but this games length can be anywhere from 10 -1 meaning it's a very minor issue if anything but a nitpick for some. One of my favourite things about all this is that it does not replace the original in anyway but instead offer its own unique take as an entire separate experience
